Job Description:
The incumbent will be responsible for running experiments (wet lab), documenting results, writing scientific manuscripts including but not limited to research publications, presentations, posters and white papers. Additionally, they will help maintain a functional laboratory in general, including negotiations with vendors, maintaining instrumentation, implementing safety procedures, ordering lab supplies and inventory management. Candidates should be well organized, detail oriented, and be able to manage multiple tasks with ease. Candidates will be expected to demonstrate sound judgment, professional etiquette, and exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills. A “can do” attitude and professional approach are expected.
Job Location/ Hours Required:
The candidate will perform most/all job duties in the Fred Wilson School of Pharmacy. Hours may vary depending on the job requirements; however, the total number of hours a student employee may work per week is 20 hours. This position requires up to 20 hours per week.
Responsibilities:
- Running experiments in pharmaceutics/formulation and analytical chemistry
- Maintaining electronic lab notebooks
- Preparing posters and/or writing scientific papers for journals
- Maintaining lab instrumentation
- Maintaining inventory
- Facilitating research group members’ experiments by preparing materials/supplies, scheduling instrument use, and any other means necessary
Required Qualifications:
- At minimum, currently pursuing a Pharm.D
Desired Skills:
- Basic knowledge of organic chemistry, analytical chemistry and biochemistry
- Preferred: Drug delivery, Formulation and Pharmaceutics
- Keeping detailed records for experiments, to the extent that others can follow the record and reproduce the results
- The ability to describe scientific processes in concise, enumerative and precise language
- The ability to follow verbal and written instructions and to implement written protocols into practice
- The ability to write protocols that others are able to reproduce into practice
