We are looking for a Healthcare Quality Assurance Specialist that will be responsible for traveling to different locations to ensure that healthcare organizations meet and maintain high-quality standards in the delivery of patient care and services. Their primary focus is to assess, monitor, and improve the overall quality, safety, and effectiveness of healthcare processes, procedures, and outcomes.
Role and Responsibilities:
- Quality Assurance Assessment: Conduct regular audits, reviews, and assessments of healthcare practices, policies, procedures, and documentation to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, industry standards, and best practices.
- Performance Monitoring: Develop and implement quality monitoring systems to track and evaluate healthcare processes, such as patient care, medication administration, infection control, and medical record management. Collect and analyze data to identify trends, areas for improvement, and potential risks.
- Compliance and Accreditation: Ensure adherence to all applicable laws, regulations, and accreditation standards (e.g., Joint Commission, CMS) by conducting audits, inspections, and surveys. Collaborate with internal teams to develop and implement corrective action plans to address any deficiencies or non-compliance issues.
- Quality Improvement Initiatives: Plan, develop, and execute quality improvement projects and initiatives to enhance patient outcomes, optimize operational efficiency, and minimize errors. Utilize quality improvement methodologies and tools (e.g., Lean Six Sigma, PDCA) to drive measurable improvements.
- Policies and Procedures: Develop, review, and update healthcare policies, procedures, and protocols to reflect current best practices, evidence-based guidelines, and regulatory requirements. Ensure that policies are communicated effectively to all relevant stakeholders and are consistently followed.
- Training and Education: Provide training and education to healthcare staff on quality assurance principles, practices, and techniques. Conduct workshops and presentations to enhance staff knowledge and awareness of quality improvement strategies and initiatives.
- Risk Management: Collaborate with risk management teams to identify and mitigate potential risks and safety hazards within the healthcare environment. Investigate adverse events, incidents, and near-misses, and facilitate the implementation of preventive measures and corrective actions.
- Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with interdisciplinary teams, including physicians, nurses, administrators, and other healthcare professionals, to foster a culture of quality and safety. Communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels to promote understanding, engagement, and accountability for quality improvement initiatives.
- Documentation and Reporting: Prepare detailed reports, presentations, and summaries of quality assurance activities, findings, and outcomes. Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of audits, inspections, corrective actions, and other quality-related activities.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Bachelor's degree in healthcare administration, nursing, or a related field (advanced degree preferred).
- Strong knowledge of healthcare regulations, standards, and best practices (e.g., HIPAA, CMS Conditions of Participation).
- Experience in quality assurance, quality improvement, or risk management within a healthcare setting.
- Familiarity with quality improvement methodologies and tools (e.g., Lean Six Sigma, PDCA).
- Excellent analytical skills, with the ability to collect and interpret data, identify trends, and make evidence-based recommendations.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with diverse stakeholders and present information clearly and concisely.
- Detail-oriented mindset with a strong commitment to accuracy and compliance.
- Problem-solving and critical thinking abilities to identify issues, root causes, and innovative solutions.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, projects, and deadlines effectively.
- Proficiency in using computer software and tools for data analysis, documentation, and presentations.
