About the role

Hannover Life Reassurance Company of America (Hannover Re) is currently seeking talented candidates for a full-time AVP, Actuary position, within the CSS – Financial Reporting & Valuation department. This position is responsible for all aspect of the financial analysis, valuation, reporting and forecasting of certain non-traditional life and/or annuity transactions sourced by Hannover Re US. This includes analysis of the performance compared to pricing and valuation expectations, assessment of the reasonableness of client reporting, and the calculation actuarial items on US statutory, IFRS, Solvency II and other relevant reporting bases.

 

Essential Functions:

(50%) Coordinates the preparation of, and reviews, approves and communicates the US statutory, IFRS, Solvency II, fair value, and other financial results of assigned categories so that Hannover Re's financial performance and forecasted expectations are accurately reported to senior management, regulators and other stakeholders.

 

(30%) Performs ongoing in-force management of assigned deals. This includes:

  • Monitoring actual experience against expectations in order to keep management informed of performance and allow for any corrective action, if needed.
  • Identifying areas for improvements in operational efficiency in administering and reporting deals in order to enhance the value of the organization by minimizing operational costs.
  • Maintaining actuarial models to a high standard with emphasis on transparency and ensuring that appropriate controls are in place and effective. 

 

(10%) Manages and develops one or more actuarial staff so that they can contribute to the company and grow their skills and knowledge to become key contributors to the organization in the future.

 

(5%) Participates in the audit process, as needed. This includes assisting our internal auditors with client audits of in-force business as well as working with our external audit partners as they audit our financial statements with the goal of making the process as concise and efficient as possible.

 

(5%) Collaborates within the department and organization on special projects and initiatives utilizing actuarial and business expertise, as needed.

Essential knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Bachelor's degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics or similar
  • 8+ years of actuarial experience across financial reporting and/or pricing roles
  • Fellow of the Society of Actuaries
  • Actuarial modelling experience: Risk Agility FM, MG-ALFA or similar
  • Computer software: Proficient in Microsoft Excel
  • Life Insurance and Annuity product knowledge; Reinsurance knowledge
  • Financial reporting knowledge: US Stat/GAAP, Solvency II, IFRS17
  • Strong writing skills and verbal communication

 

Desired knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Member of the American Academy of Actuaries
  • Experience with valuation or pricing of modern life or annuity products
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Powerpoint, SQL/Access
  • Working knowledge of R, Python, or similar

 

Travel:

  • Limited travel expected (<5%)


Total Compensation Range (Inclusive of Base + Bonus) :

  • $166,900 - $237,700
