Who We Are:
The Fund for Public Health in New York City (FPHNYC) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that is dedicated to the advancement of the health and well-being of all New Yorkers. To this end, in partnership with the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH), FPHNYC incubates innovative public health initiatives implemented by DOHMH to advance community health throughout the city. It facilitates partnerships, often new and unconventional, between government and the private sector to develop, test, and launch new initiatives. These collaborations speed the execution of demonstration projects, effect expansion of successful pilot programs, and support rapid implementation to meet the public health needs of individuals, families, and communities across New York City.

The Fund for Public Health in New York City (FPHNYC) seeks a mission-driven leader to serve as its next Chief Executive Officer (CEO). This is a unique opportunity to lead a highly impactful public-private partnership deeply embedded in one of the world’s most dynamic and visible cities. As the only nonprofit that works exclusively with the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH), FPHNYC serves as a catalyst for cross-sector partnerships that provide scalable and high-impact solutions to some of the City’s most pressing public health issues. Having the Commissioner of Health as the organization’s Board Chair and President, FPHNYC can act swiftly and strategically as a fiscal agent, thought partner, and force multiplier on behalf of DOHMH. From accelerating initiatives to deploying emergency response efforts, FPHNYC is trusted to act with speed, transparency, integrity, and impact.
The CEO will lead FPHNYC at a pivotal moment in its evolution. The ideal candidate will bring a deep understanding of public health and health equity, a sophisticated approach to advancing public-private partnerships and systems leadership, and the comfort and ability to excel in politically complex environments while maintaining a strong, nonpartisan stance. They will be a strong manager, with experience driving operational excellence, managing complex contracts, and streamlining workflows across a large, multifaceted organization. Additionally, they will be a compelling communicator and proven fundraiser, capable of building and sustaining diverse revenue streams across government, philanthropic, and individual sources. Leading a high-visibility, high-impact organization at the forefront of public health innovation, locally and globally, FPHNYC’s next CEO will be counted on to serve the people of New York City with integrity, urgency, and vision.
Responsibilities:
• Lead and facilitate dynamic public-private partnerships, on behalf of DOHMH, to improve the health of all New Yorkers.
• Champion and facilitate fundraising activities in partnership with Board members, the Chief External Affairs Officer, and the New York City Health Commissioner. Cultivate and secure financial support from a diverse array of sources, including government contracts, philanthropies and foundations, corporate partners, and individual donors.
• In partnership with the Board of Directors, Executive Leadership Team, and DOHMH, lead the refinement, execution, and ongoing adaptation of FPHNYC’s five-year strategic plan in response to the evolving public health landscape. Work tirelessly to position FPHNYC as a leader in public health innovation, equity, and cross-sector collaboration.
• Report to the New York City Health Commissioner and Board of Directors, updating them on critical changes in organizational strategy and leveraging their expertise to bolster FPHNYC’s impact and reach. Recruit and onboard new Board members, as appropriate.
