Job Description Summary
Organization's Summary Statement:The Department of Information Technology invites applications for a two-year, grant-funded, full-time, nonexempt, twelve-month position. Renewal of position is based availability of funding. The position reports to the Assistant Director of Information Technology.
This position supports the installation, maintenance, and operation of instructional and presentation technologies in classrooms, labs, and meeting spaces across the UMES campus. The position ensures that technology resources are reliable and effectively support the university’s teaching, learning, and event needs. This role provides direct technical assistance to faculty, staff, and students, working collaboratively with the IT Support Services team to deliver a consistent and high-quality classroom technology experience.

Essential Duties:
•Install, configure, and maintain classroom audiovisual (AV) and computer
systems, including projectors, flat-panel displays, control systems,
microphones, speakers, document cameras, and other instructional equipment.
•Assist faculty and staff with setup and operation of instructional technology
and video conferencing tools (e.g., Zoom, Microsoft Teams).
•Perform routine maintenance and preventative inspections on classroom and
lab equipment to ensure proper functionality.
•Document classroom configurations, maintenance schedules, and support
requests using university ticketing systems. Maintain inventory of classroom
technology equipment and parts.
•Assist with planning and implementation of classroom technology upgrades
and new installations in collaboration with IT leadership and external vendors.
•Provide basic training and demonstrations for faculty and staff on the use of
classroom and instructional technologies.
•Performs other related duties as assigned.
Physical Demands:
•May require extended periods of standing, bending, stooping, sitting at desk.
•May require lifting.
•Requires communication with a variety of constituents externally and internally.
•Requires operation of a variety of office equipment.
Additional Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
•Working knowledge of AV systems and components including projectors,
displays, microphones, speakers, and control systems (e.g., Crestron, Extron).
•Familiarity with Windows and macOS platforms.
•Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills for both hardware and software
issues. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
•Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize effectively, and respond quickly to
classroom support requests.
•Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
Minimum Qualifications
EDUCATION: High School Diploma or GED.
EXPERIENCE: Two years with the types of hardware and software to be supported, one year of which included user support, user training, and/or programming.
OTHER:
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
General knowledge of two applicable software products; of applicable computers and peripherals. Skill in configuring computer hardware and software; to analytically design program logic or solve technical problems; in operating supported computers and peripherals. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; to work effectively with clients.
OTHER:
Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience.
