Job Title: Intern - Research Assistant, Part-Time
Organization: Heat Policy Innovation Hub
Job Description: The Heat Policy Innovation Hub is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented student to join our team as a Research Assistant Intern. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to groundbreaking research aimed at addressing the urgent challenges posed by rising global temperatures.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate closely with Heat Hub staff on various research projects focusing on the impacts of extreme heat on health outcomes.
- Assist in the acquisition, processing, and analysis of data from diverse sources, including state hospital inpatient and emergency room admissions data, meteorological metrics, and other relevant environmental datasets.
- Utilize Python or R programming languages to manipulate and analyze large datasets efficiently.
- Employ statistical techniques to uncover meaningful insights and patterns within the data.
- Support the development of data visualization tools and techniques to communicate research findings effectively.
- Contribute to the preparation of reports, presentations, and academic publications based on research outcomes.
Qualifications:
- Recently graduated or enrollment in a relevant undergraduate or graduate program (e.g., environmental science, public health, data science, etc.).
- Proficiency in Python or R programming languages for data analysis and manipulation.
- Experience working with large datasets and employing statistical methods for analysis.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, with the ability to critically evaluate research findings.
- Familiarity with data visualization techniques and tools is preferred.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Demonstrated interest in environmental health, public health, or related fields is a plus.
Duration and Compensation:
- This is a part-time position, requiring approximately 10-20 hours per week.
- Compensation will be provided based on qualifications and experience.
