Postdoctoral Associate - Metabolism

Summary

The lab of Dr. Sean Hartig at Baylor College of Medicine focuses on metabolic regulation of gene expression. Baylor College of Medicine, one of the top ranked medical schools in the country, is well known for its exceptional, innovative, and collaborative research environment. The lab is currently recruiting Postdoctoral Associate with backgrounds in metabolism and gene regulation to work in our laboratory. The Postdoctoral Associate will likely use a combination of genetic mouse models, flow cytometry, and cell culture to explore fundamental mechanisms of energy balance in preclinical models of obesity.  The lab provides an interactive and stimulating environment as well as opportunities for growth and career development. The Postdoc should be highly motivated, well organized, manage time effectively, and have the ability to work independently as well as part of a team. The indiividual will be required to conduct experimental research, design one or more specific phases of entire projects, and publish manuscripts as a lead author. The research topic is on endocrine and metabolic factors generated from adipose tissue that govern energy balance.

Job Duties

• Plans, directs, and conducts specialized and advanced research experiments.
• Conducts experimental research on endocrine and metabolic factors generated from adipose tissue that govern energy balance.
• Designs one or more specific phases of projects.
• Uses a combination of genetic mouse models, flow cytometry, and cell culture to explore fundamental mechanisms of energy balance in preclinical models of obesity. 
• Publishes manuscripts as lead author.
• Evaluates and analyzes data.
• Establishes new research protocols and procedures.
• Summarizes research findings and publishes results in research journals. 
• Publishes manuscripts as lead author.
• Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• MD or Ph.D. in Basic Science, Health Science, or a related field.
• No experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

• Be highly motivated, well organized, manage time effectively, and have the ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
