Position: We are recruiting a Clinical Post-Doctoral Associate to work in the Pain Prevention and Treatment Research Program and interact closely with a multidisciplinary team conducting behavioral clinical trials in the area of pain and symptom management and health promotion for patients with cancer and other chronic diseases. This position is in the Division of Behavioral Medicine and Neurosciences within the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Duke University School of Medicine. The position involves working on NIH and foundation funded behavioral intervention trials ranging in size from small pilots to large clinical trials. Our team has multiple ongoing studies funded by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and American Cancer Society (ACS). One recently funded NCI R01 is a large trial of a cognitive behavioral symptom management and activity coaching intervention for patients with cancer following stem cell transplant. Another recently funded NCI R01 is a large multi-site trial of a psychosocial intervention for patients with advanced cancer who reside in medically underserved communities.

 

Specific responsibilities of this job may include providing behavioral pain management interventions both in person and by videoconferencing to patients with cancer recruited into clinical trials, scientific writing, and high-level coordination and management of clinical trial operations. There is a potential opportunity in this position for involvement in data analysis work and authorship of empirical manuscripts as well as presentation of research findings at local and national meetings. This position would offer the opportunity to receive supervision and clinical work to lead to licensure in clinical psychology in the state of North Carolina. Additionally, as desired by the applicant, this position could offer mentoring for scientific grant writing intending to move the individual toward an independent academic career.
