Description

URM Stores, Inc. is looking for a talented Logistics Specialist to join our ever-growing team. The Logistics Specialist is responsible for the development, planning, and execution of inbound operations related to company assets and third-party carriers. Monitors and analyzes logistics costs and related expenses. The position works closely with Procurement, Receiving, Transportation, shippers/suppliers, and freight carriers to develop the most cost-effective, on-time strategy for inbound freight.

The Logistics Specialist is also responsible for understanding the systems, delivery routes, and transportation procedures of URM Stores, Inc. and all its Vendors, customers, and our Member-Owners.

Responsibilities:
  • Negotiate carrier contracts and conduct RFPs for each lane.
  • Managing daily backhauls and inbound third-party loads.
  • Coordinate with shippers, warehouse, lumpers, and third-party carriers for accurate arrival and unloading times.
  • Negotiate Lumping and Handling fees for 3PL loads and Back Haul.
  • Managing cost per mile, empty miles, accessorial costs, dwell time, transit time, delivery, and temperatures.
  • Manage carrier database, vendors, allowances, routing locations, fuel, rates, orders, loads, freight invoices, claims, and      reporting. 
  • Analyze vendor pricing and lane data to facilitate best cost model for Delivery, Backhaul, or 3PL.
  • Oversight of Backhaul opportunities to reduce empty miles traveled by company assets.
  • Tracks and communicates revenue, profit, and losses, for YOY results for all Backhaul and 3PL inbound.
  • Ongoing Training and development of buyers, assistants, and logistics around the Peachtree system and 3PL profitability component.
  • Developing processes that make the supply chain more efficient and organized.
  • Leading weekly overview meetings to address changes and concerns for all departments including operations, warehouse, and      procurement.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree (Business Admin, Marketing or Transportation/Logistics) and/or two to three years of fleet management or      transportation experience in the truckload industry preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills, proven management ability, and skill in operating a computer and satellite communications      system required.
  • 2 or more years transportation / purchasing experience preferred.
  • 2 or more years’ experience Grocery or Retail Distribution Center, Third Party Logistics Provider, Freight Services.
  • Basic knowledge of produce, perishable, meat, and grocery products.
  • Basic knowledge of DOT Hours and Regulations.
  • Basic Knowledge of MS Office applications.
  • Good negotiation and problem-solving skills.
