Job Summary
This position serves as one of the College’s School Certifying Officials, responsible for certifying benefits recipients to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and providing support to military-affiliated students. The individual reports to the Director of the Veteran and Military Student Success Center.
Job Duties
• Serve as a School Certifying Official & maintain related annual training requirements.
• Comply with the Tennessee State Approving Agency’s policies and guidelines to maintain the College’s eligibility for GI Bill® benefits.
• Comply with mandated procedures from the VA and the Department of Defense Memorandum of Understanding.
• Manage administrative duties for the VaMSSC, including but not limited to records management, answering calls, processing mail, maintaining website and social media pages, and assisting walk-in clients.
• Initiate admissions and/or education benefits applications and any other related forms.
• Process administrative records and enter veterans’ information into appropriate computer systems; certify eligible students each semester and make changes weekly as needed.
• Promote the VaMSSC and related services on campus and within the community, including travel to local guard/reserve units.
Minimum Qualifications
• Associate degree or higher from an accredited institution
• One year of clerical or administrative support experience
Preferred Qualifications
• One or more years of experience in higher education or Veterans services
• Experience working with VA educational benefits or military-affiliated student services
• Conversational ability or fluency in a second language
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Technology Skills: MS Office skills, Word, Excel, Outlook; videoconferencing software; digital records management systems; general operating systems and data information systems
• Ability to work independently
• Ability to establish and maintain effective and cordial working relationships
• Knowledge of records management concepts and best practices
• Attention to detail, accuracy, and follow-through
