Job Summary

The Mill Mobile Mechanic will support the reliability and performance of mobile and support equipment at the Mill and Filtration Plant. During the Curlew Basin Restart Project, this role will assist with commissioning, readiness activities, and training of team members. Once operational, the position will focus on maintenance, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement to ensure safe and efficient mill operations.

Essential Functions

  • Provide advanced diagnostics, repairs, and preventive maintenance on mobile and stationary equipment supporting the Mill area (e.g., forklifts, loaders, service trucks, light vehicles, small mobile units, and auxiliary systems).
  • Support commissioning and functional testing of new mill mobile equipment, rental equipment, and third party contractor equipment; verify mechanical integrity, fluid systems, and operational safety prior to turnover to operations.
  • Collaborate with maintenance supervision, electrical, and operations teams to identify reliability risks and establish maintenance standards and inspection routines for mobile assets.
  • Develop and deliver on-the-job training and mentoring to lower-level mechanics, promoting safe work practices and technical skill development aligned with Kinross’s Safeground principles.
  • Assist with the setup and organization of the mill maintenance shop—tools, consumables, work orders, and CMMS data entry for new assets.
  • Participate in equipment reliability improvement initiatives, root-cause analysis of mechanical failures, and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Ensure all work meets Kinross standards, manufacturer specifications, and regulatory requirements (MSHA, state, and company policies).
  • Conduct preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on mobile equipment such as loaders, forklifts, service trucks, man lifts, light vehicles, and small mobile units used in mill and plant support.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems; coordinate complex troubleshooting with electricians, operators, and supervisors.
  • Perform routine inspections, oil sampling, and condition monitoring to support reliability-based maintenance strategies.
  • Complete detailed work orders and equipment history reports in the CMMS; communicate parts needs and maintenance priorities to the supervisor.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Skills

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required; technical trade certification in heavy equipment or mobile maintenance preferred.
  • 8 + years of experience in mobile or heavy industrial maintenance, preferably within a processing plant.
  • Excellent trouble shooting skill and ability to carry out preventative and breakdown maintenance.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and specifications.
  • Ability to problem-solve and manage conflicting priorities.
  • Computer literacy – Microsoft Office, Pronto or similar Computerized Maintenance Management System(CMMS).
  • Valid driver’s license required and authorized to work in the US.
