About the role

Summary

Spire is hiring a Fleet Operations Manager at its downtown St. Louis (MO) location.  The Fleet Operations Manager will lead the Fleet Department’s garage operations for all of Spire’s utility businesses. This function includes providing specific management, leadership and guidance for all fleet programs that directly affect fleet performance and field operations.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manages the day to day Garage Services operations for all Spire locations; establishes metrics and key performance indicators to measure garage and technician performance against measurable goals.
  • Responsible for overall operation of all Garage Services operations for Spire locations; makes key decisions on workload planning, resource requirements, and workload balancing to ensure we are meeting the needs of our various customers.
  • Maintains relationships with vendors and develops contracts as required.
  • Provides general management, direction and development of direct reports, including prioritization of work assignments, setting quality and professional standards; periodically reviews work produced for accuracy.
  • Develops direct reports by creating performance objectives and providing guidelines and direction in reaching those goals.
  • Provides guidance on Garage productivity and assists in making decisions on outsourcing repairs as necessary.
  • Works closely with Union representatives on labor issues and participates in labor negotiations.
  • Collaborates with customers to optimize scheduling that will limit vehicle downtime and result in reduced Operation and Maintenance expenses and increased vehicle uptime.
  • Provides input on vehicle specifications and works with the Lead, Fleet Acquisition specialist to develop replacement criteria and assists in developing the yearly budget.
  • Provides input, oversight, and implementation of fleet policies and procedures designed to maintain all Spire assets and improve company compliance.
  • Assists in the development of financial targets, as well as assists in measuring performance against those targets.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Required Education (certifications, licenses)

  • Associates degree required, preferably focused in vehicle management, business management, logistics management or related field.  Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Professional certification such as National Association of Fleet Administrator (NAFA), Certified Automotive Fleet Specialist (CAFS), Certified Automotive Fleet Manager (CAFM), or Automotive and Diesel Technology certification is highly preferred.

Required knowledge, skill and abilities

  • Five to ten years’ experience in Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and compliance programs required.
  • Five to ten years’ experience in the fleet or transportation industry or five to ten years’ experience in managing complex garage operations required.
  • Experience in handling a large fleet with a variety of vehicles and equipment such as: passenger vehicles, medium duty pickups, construction assets, trailers, and utility vehicles required.
  • Five years supervising non-union or union personnel at a line or staff level strongly preferred.

Physical demands, environment and schedule

  • Requires normal physical stamina – works in office, garage, and outdoor environments.
  • Occasional travel expected to cover all of Spire footprint.
