Warehouse Clerk/Material Handler

Description

Ball Horticultural Company is a leading breeder and distributor of flowers and vegetables around the globe.  Located in the suburb of West Chicago (near Naperville and Geneva), our 60-acre property boasts 10 acres of display gardens.  The gardens are primarily used as a sales and marketing tool but also provide a great relaxation opportunity for staff at the home office.  Perennials, annuals, vegetables, roses, and shrubs are blooming from May through September.   In this role, you will be  perform material handling activities and maintain organized warehouse to support our seed enhancement laboratory. 

Job Responsibilities

· Preparation of pelleting powder and vermiculite to established standards used for seed enhancement for greenhouse growers

· Mix powder formulations based on recipes to ensure consistent enhanced seed products for our customers

· Use a forklift to move and re-arrange pallets in warehouse for a safe and organized environment 

· Maintain growth chambers and irrigation bars to ensure proper environment for inventory testing 

· Use machinery to fill and wash soil flats for testing 

· Move heavy bags of soil, vermiculite, and other products with some lifting at shoulder level or above

· Adhere to all quality control measures and watch for signs of tampering and contamination 

· Provide support to various departments as needed

· Other duties as assigned 

Requirements

· High school diploma/GED require

· Basic math and computer skills are required.

· Forklift experience preferred. Certification/training provided as needed.

· Ability to enter and maintain records in computer system

· Strong organization skills

· Ability to work independently to complete a variety of tasks

Salary Range: $18-20/hour

Hours:

6:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. subject to change based on seasonal requirements

Overtime may be required during peak season and may be short notice

Physical Requirements 

· Ability to Lift/Carry 40 lbs 20% of the day

· Ability to push/pull 40 lbs 30% of the day 

· Ability to sit/stand 100% of the day 

· Ability to kneel/bend 25% of the day 

· Ability to reach 20% of the day 

· Ability to climb/balance 5% of the day 

· Ability to use hands/fingers 100% of the day 

· Ability to work in outdoor conditions with forklift for 5% of the day 2-3 days per week.
