Position Summary:         

This position is a part-time appointment to teach a 3-credit course in the Drawing Department during the fall 2025 semester, Wash and Gouache.

Job Description:

The faculty position will teach a 3 credit studio course, Wash and Gouache, within the Drawing program, at an art school nationally known for its dedication to teaching excellence, a rigorous liberal arts curriculum and the importance of the fine arts.  The candidate will be capable of teaching various levels of the undergraduate program, be proficient in traditional techniques, and have a broad understanding of new approaches to drawing and painting. In addition to teaching, all part-time faculty are expected to pursue research and/or professional engagements that contribute to the educational mission of the program and college.

This course explores uses of a variety of wet drawing mediums such as ink, watercolor, gouache, tempera and casein. Students will spend the semester learning a variety of mark-making techniques from both observation and invention and learn best practices for each media. We’ll compare and contrast the results and students will be given agency to respond to open ended assignment prompts with personal imagery. In addition, students will be encouraged to explore substrates, transparency & opacity, historical, traditional, and non-traditional and mixed media uses of these less toxic mediums and encouraged to connect them to other disciplines.

Minimum Requirements:

• Bachelor's Degree in a related field

• Knowledge of various aspects of painting and drawing practice.

• Basic knowledge of Canvas LMS is required to teach Drawing students.

• Experience teaching at the college-level beyond graduate assistantships is preferred.

Salary:   $4,515.00 - $7,656.00 Commensurate with experience and the Collective Bargaining Agreement. The part-time faculty are represented by the SEIU Local 500.

Physical demands and work environment:

• Physical Demands: While performing the duties of the job, the employee is occasionally required to stand, walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; balance; stoop; talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. 

• Work environment: While performing the duties of the job, the employee is exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high.

• Required training:  MICA Handbook orientation, Anti-Harassment, Hazard Communication, Emergency Plans & Fire Prevention, Personal Protection Equipment.
