Job Description

The University of Nevada, Reno Extension is seeking an innovative and detail-oriented Grants & Projects Analyst Trainee to support the SNAP-Ed Program. ***This position does not provide layoff rights and is contingent upon funding. This role is responsible for full lifecycle grants management—including pre-award budget development, post-award fiscal oversight, compliance monitoring, and strategic financial planning—for a complex portfolio spanning three CABNR units: Extension, Nutrition Department, and the Experiment Station.

Key Responsibilities:

Pre-Award Administration:

  • Identify and communicate funding opportunities to faculty and leadership.

  • Review solicitations to determine eligibility and proposal requirements.

  • Develop and review proposal budgets, ensuring costs are allowable, allocable, and reasonable.

  • Provide feedback and guidance to faculty regarding proposal documents and submission requirements.

  • Assist with routing and uploading proposal materials into university and sponsor submission systems.

Post-Award Financial Oversight:

  • Lead financial operations, including monitoring budgets by category, project, and worktag to identify needs for revisions or modifications.

  • Review and approve expenditures, ensuring they meet federal and institutional standards for allowability, allocability, and reasonableness.

  • Evaluate and approve or deny subaward invoices based on compliance and documentation.

  • Prepare detailed monthly backup documentation for reimbursements and submit to Sponsored Projects.

  • Reconcile grant accounts and ensure timely and accurate reporting of expenditures and balances.

Compliance & Strategic Reporting:

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, sponsor, and university policies and procedures.

  • Serve as a subject matter expert and resource for faculty and staff on grant regulations and university requirements.

  • Provide technical assistance to sub-grantees and coordinate training on grant administration and fiscal best practices.

  • Analyze financial data to develop reports and provide strategic recommendations to the SNAP-Ed Principal Investigator (PI) and/or sponsoring agencies.

  • Make recommendations regarding fiscal policy improvements, accounting practices, and reconciliation processes.

Training & Communication:

  • Conduct group and individualized trainings for faculty on the grant lifecycle—from proposal to closeout.
