Job Description

This position is contingent on contract award.

This position will support the US Department of Veterans Affairs Critical Staffing Program.  The person in this position will represent International SOS Government Medical Services, Inc. and provide services outlined below: 

International SOS Government Medical Services, Inc. is looking for an individual who is an experienced Otolaryngologist, or ear, nose, and throat (ENT) specialist, is to diagnose and treat disorders related to the ears, nose, throat, and related structures of the head and neck. This physician provides comprehensive care for conditions such as allergies, sinusitis, hearing loss, and throat disorders, and performs surgical procedures when necessary to restore or improve function and health. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for providing Otolaryngology care and clinical services. 
  • Be present on time for any scheduled clinics and surgeries as documented by physical presence in the clinic or operating room at the scheduled start time.  
  • Provide comprehensive clinical otolaryngology services including the full range of ENT procedures: Typical surgical procedures include but are not limited to thyroidectomy, parotidectomy, sinus surgery, head and neck cancer removal, and pan endoscopy. 
  • Conduct rounds on postoperative ENT patients in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) and wards.  
  • Discuss cases in morbidity and mortality conferences and provide appropriate information to the COR for inclusion in departmental reports.  
  • Provide consultative services at the patient’s bedside if the patient is not ambulatory and, in the clinic, if the patient is able to report to the outpatient clinic.  
  • Schedule procedures for completion within 30 days of the date of the consult.  
  • Provide notification of test results for patients receiving care in accordance with VHA Directive 1088, Communicating Test Results to Providers and Patients.  
  • Follow all established medication policies and procedures. No sample medications shall be provided to patients.  
  • Provide discharge education and follow up instructions that are coordinated with the next care setting for all otolaryngology clinical or surgical patients.  
  • Responsible for patient care documentation, including pre-operative notes, surgery, and emergency surgery. 
  • Dictate operative report immediately after the procedure. Describe the procedure, operative findings, and condition of the patient including the name of the staff physician responsible for the procedure and the post-procedure care. It shall be written or countersigned by the staff physician. 
  • Review with the patient results, progress and the prognosis prior to discharge.  
  • Provide surgical services including pre-operative and post-operative evaluation and follow-up in addition to the operative session.  
  • All operative sessions performed or supervised by an attending; documentation requirements include: 
    • Timely, complete and attested brief operative note in CPRS (VA's electronic patient record system). 
    • Timely, complete and dictated operative report authored or co-signed by the attending. 
    • Progress notes or addenda authored by the attending for any change in condition.  
    • Timely, complete discharge summary signed by the att
