SUMMARY

Under general supervision, manages MPS transportation operations and safety programs; schedules and supervises drivers providing transportation services for students; assures compliance with public transit regulations, safety and service standards, and MPS policies and procedures.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

 

• Manages the daily operations of the student transportation operations.
• Develops and implements safety programs, including driver workshops, student education programs, and community relations projects.
• Supervises and coordinates transportation services staff; schedules work shifts, assigns tasks, and allocates resources; evaluates subordinate staff; manages training programs and records.
• Meets regularly with staff to discuss and resolve priorities, workload, and technical issues; assures that appropriate services are provided, and goals are defined and achieved.
• Monitors and documents driver’s performance and training status, and investigates complaints.
• Assures compliance with state and Federal safety policies, procedures, rules, and regulations.
• Investigates and documents all accidents and incidents as required by state and Federal regulations.
• Assists with conflict intervention; resolves public relations issues with parents and students.
• Reviews the work of staff to ensure the work quality and timely accomplishment of assigned duties.
• Manages utilization of available resources to maximize safety, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.
• Assists in the development and revision of operating policies and procedures.
• Manages contracts for special services; compiles technical and financial data for operational reports.
• Coordinates drug and alcohol testing programs and employee background checks according to Federal and State regulations.
• Reports unsafe acts, conditions, accidents, and injuries; responds to emergencies as needed.
• Demonstrates courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with students, clients, visitors, and MPS staff; acts in a manner that promotes a harmonious and effective workplace environment 
• Enthusiastically promotes the Superintendent’s goals and priorities in compliance with all policies and procedures.
• Maintains absolute confidentiality of work-related issues, records, and MPS information.
• Other duties or tasks may be assigned on an as-needed basis
• At times may be required to work outside normal business hours and work extended hours to accomplish the requirements of the position.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education, Training, and Experience Guidelines

Associate’s Degree in Transportation Management, Business or Public Administration, or related field; AND four (4) years of transportation management experience, preferably in public education; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience as determined by Human Resources. 

 

 

Knowledge of:

• Federal, state, and local codes and regulations governing public transportation.
• Federal and state safety laws and regulations, including OSHA requirements, and drug and alcohol testing guidelines for Commercial Driver’s License.
