ROLE SUMMARY:

THE INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL OF MILAN is seeking 2 Early Years Teaching Assistants for roles which will commence immediately, due to an increase in admissions in the Early Years, and will last until the end of the academic year. There may be the possibility of extending the role into a more permanent position depending on numbers for the next academic year and the candidates performance. As an IB continuum school (PYP-MYP-DP), we especially welcome expressions of interest from teaching assistants with previous IB experience. However, we also welcome applications from well-qualified teaching assistants who are committed to high standards, interested in using innovative approaches to learning, and enthusiastic about promoting international understanding. Experience in teaching in the Early Years is essential for this role.

 

Please very clearly indicate your teaching experience across the primary age range within your CV and letter of application. The closing date for applications is January 31st. Our school

Founded in 1958, ISM caters for over 900 students from more than 60 nationalities. Our campus, which opened in September 2013, incorporates a theatre, swimming pool and full-size gymnasium as well as specialist classrooms, labs, libraries, arts and music areas. All of our sections are fully authorised for International Baccalaureate (IB) programmes – Primary Years Programme (PYP) from Kindergarten to Grade 6; Middle Years Programme (MYP) from Grades 7 to 11; Diploma Programme (DP) in Grades 12 and 13. ISM is the most established IB world school in Italy and has an excellent record of results in the Diploma averaging 34/35 points. In addition, we opened our Boarding school in 2018 which has added immensely to the sense of family at ISM.

 

The Role of of the Early Years Teaching Assistant

Our Early Years Teaching Assistants are skilled in teaching a range of abilities within the classroom and are able to work with small groups to help students achieve their full potential. They embrace diversity, within our international setting, ensuring that learning is inclusive of students of all nationalities, profiles and linguistic abilities. They ensure that student agency is at the centre of the learning experience, encouraging innovation and creativity, within a caring and principled learning environment.

ESSENTIAL CHARACTERISTICS FOR ISM APPLICANTS:

  • possession of a relevant university degree;
  • recent experience successfully working in a Primary or Elementary setting as a Teaching Assistant or Learning Support Assistant;
  • enthusiasm and passion for the role, with the ability to motivate students of all abilities;
  • a high standard of spoken and written English.
