Assistant Manager, UX & Design (Visual Design)

About the role

To manage the daily operations of a team responsible to leverage user-centered methodologies to craft optimized experience deliverables while ensuring department goals and objectives are met. Lead a team of designers through continuous development and governance of the enterprise design system materials to ensure brand unified cohesion, Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) standards, design continuity, and alignment with long term vision of design deliverables. Oversee career management activities. career pathing, onboarding, and mentoring design team members to drive engagement and team cohesion.

  • Demonstrate the value and impact of applicable UX methodologies to derive actionable feedback for usability improvements with the goal of optimizing experience of products or services
  • Collaborate with project teams and designers to define the user experience strategy and vision
  • Influence product design and implementation teams to drive customer engagement
  • Communicate and advocate for continuous research and evaluation of products and services throughout product life cycle and beyond implementation. Ensure quantitative and qualitative research methods are leveraged to triangulate data and enhance the validity and reliability of research findings
  • Direct the creation of UX design deliverables and ensure testing requirements are met to ensure design meets business objectives
  • Investigate and resolve discrepancies by actively collaborating and communicating across business lines to drive cohesion across teams
  • Serve as subject matter expert for user insights and design inspiration and recommend user experience improvement opportunities
  • Identify areas of improvement; determine solutions; implement enhancements/changes to improve operations, standards, and results
  • Ensure project deliverables are met in accordance with customers' expectations, timelines & budget constraints
  • Lead teams through the Development Lifecycle for multiple projects in various phases ensuring IT deliverables meet design specifications and WCAG AA requirements
  • Incorporate and leverage best industry practices while maintaining alignment with Navy Federal goals and capabilities
  • Provide career pathing support to designers by identifying growth opportunities for their role and to achieve goals or gain experience in new roles that align with MSO business needs
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
  • Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, User-Centered Design/Human-Computer Interaction, a related field, or the equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • Experience with Accessibility standards and technical knowledge of WCAG requirements
  • Experience translating business requirements into technical solutions
  • Advanced skill collaborating with various external and internal technical and/or functional contacts
  • Experience with design fundamentals, such as color theory, typography, and composition
  • Experience managing cross-functional, multi-dimensional teams and projects of the highest complexity which have business risk and impact
  • Experience working knowledge of Navy Federal products, services, programs, policies, and procedures
  • Advanced skill in results-oriented leadership in a challenging environment
  • Experience supervising and leading employees
  • Advanced skill maintaining accuracy with attention to detail and meeting deadlines
  • Advanced skill making sound organizational and operational decisions
  • Advanced skill to influence, negotiate and persuade to reach agreeable exchange and positive outcomes
  • Effective skill communicating complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences
  • Advanced verbal and written communication skills

Desired Qualifications

  • Human Factors Institute Certified Analyst
  • Technical proficiency with Accessibility standards and ADA compliancy
  • Working knowledge of Navy Federal's Project Portfolio Management (PPM)
  • Advanced knowledge of Navy Federal’s functions, philosophy, operations, and organizational objectives
