Eligible for a Sign-On Bonus up to $10,000
Under the supervision of the Chief Tech - Ultrasound, performs a variety of technical procedures in the application of ultrasonic waves to humans for diagnosis of disease in the department, or with mobile equipment, in other areas of the hospital to both inpatients and outpatients of all ages; assists in teaching students; schedules patients and prepares charge slips and other records as required.
Essential Job Functions
- Observes the confidentiality of department information
- Demonstrates a positive, supportive attitude to patients' families and other personnel consistently
- Displays patience and tact when dealing with patients' families and other health professionals
- Presents department in a positive manner to families, patients, significant others and hospital personnel as observed by supervisor with no documented infraction noted annually
- Ensures the performance of daily quality control on instrumentation per department protocol
- Maintain all records and documentation as required for personnel by JCAHO Inspections
- Ensure safety practices for technologist and others in accordance with prescribed standards
- Make minor adjustments to equipment as deemed necessary
- Operates mobile ultrasound unit required to perform bedside examination
- Ensures that all employees adhere to all prescribed safety procedures in the performance of their duties
- Communicates employee performance problems to appropriate manager
- Checks quality of examinations and orders repeats if necessary
- Monitors indicators with Q.A. committee and maintains documentation
- Provides students with explanation of protocol and procedures
- Assists student supervision, evaluation and teaching as required
- Provides patient and student with explanation of protocol and procedures when applicable
- Assists with patient and student teaching as required
- Maintains awareness of safety hazards and use of equipment to prevent damage to personnel and patients
- Reports equipment needing repair to chief technologist immediately
- Obtains a complete history from the patient and/or chart prior to implementing procedures
- Performs ultrasound operations on assigned patients to obtain optimum scans
- Assists other staff when work is completed
- Maintains communications with in-house staff and professional staff
- Maintains communications with nursing staff and physicians outside the hospital as necessary
- Introduces self to patient by name and title 100% of time
- Ensures the explanation of procedures and protocols are given to patients and significant others within 5 minutes of patient's entering the department for all patient exams
- Ensures the performance of the imaging process on the appropriate patient, following established procedures, and as prescribed by the physician
- Schedule elective and emergency exams per department protocol
- Gives assistance to technologist as required
- Properly documents all unusual incidents
- Ensures observance of safety standards in compliance with legal requirements and department regulations
- Ensures that work areas are kept neat and orderly
- Documents tests, procedures, to be performed on chart, and communicates this to appropriate person, and follows through to assure orders are completed with no documented errors noted
- Carries out all physician orders and documents on appropriate form
- Leaves patient care area neat, tidy and stocked with supplies after each shift
- Demonstrates ability to identify and resolve interpersonal conflicts constructively when dealing with members of the health care team, as documented by direct observation
- Displays patience and tact when dealing with patients' families and other health professionals, as documented by no more than one (1) complaint within a year from physicians or patients requiring written counseling
- Maintains courteous and pleasant attitude 100% of the time to physicians, patients, families and significant others, as observed by supervisor
- Demonstrates knowledge of age specific factors necessary to perform duties safely and effectively
- Participates in in-service educational programs
- Attends outside conferences as available
- Attends all mandatory departmental and hospital in-services
