Job Summary
Reporting directly to the Controller, the Payroll Accountant/Specialist will support day-to-day operations. Once their training is complete (1 month), this position will be hybrid with 2-3 days a week spent in the company’s new office at 750 Glenwood Ave in Atlanta. Daily activities include preparing payroll, responding to employees’ questions, working with benefits carriers, posting payroll and benefits transactions in the accounting system.
The ideal candidate will have great attention to detail and strong communication skills. They are a proactive team player and will have plenty of opportunities to learn. The Finance & Accounting organization is a close-knit team reporting to the CFO. It consists of Staff Accountant, Senior Staff Accountant and Controller (Accounting team), as well as FP&A Manager and Business Analyst (FP&A team).
Payroll Accountant / Sr. Payroll Specialist Responsibilities
- Prepare bi-weekly payroll for 170+ employees in Zenefits, post payroll and benefits transactions in the accounting system.
- Prepare bi-weekly 401k contributions files, review Vanguard communications and reports.
- Prepare monthly calculations of bonuses and commissions.
- Provide commissions statements to 36 sales team members.
- Review monthly benefits invoices for accuracy, address questions and billing discrepancies with the benefits carriers.
- Collaborate with the People team, benefits carriers and iiQ payroll provider to respond to employees’ payroll inquiries in a timely manner.
- Review state communications and payroll records for compliance with the state payroll regulations. Incident IQ currently has employees in 23 states.
- Maintain accurate records and supporting documents for all payroll and benefits transactions.
- Participate in the month-end, year-end closing processes, and annual audit, providing support to the Controller as needed for all payroll-related inquiries.
- Over time, Payroll Accountant will have an opportunity to be a part of the ERP implementation project, automating sales commissions and will assist with other ad-hoc projects as needed.
Key Skills / Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
- Minimum of 3+ year of experience as a Payroll Accountant / Payroll Specialist, or similar duties
- Knowledge of Microsoft Excel, comfortable learning new technology
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with employees, colleagues and benefits partners
- Detail-oriented and organized approach
- Ability to work independently with limited direct supervision
- Be someone that is looking to learn and improve, solicits feedback
- Prior experience with commissions, payroll taxes and multi-state payroll is preferred
