About the role

EMERGENCY MEDICINE TELEHEALTH PHYSICIAN

Job Specification

WHO WE ARE

RightSite Health (RSH) utilizes a navigation platform that reduces avoidable Emergency Department visits by pairing board-certified Emergency Medicine physicians with patient navigators to conduct telehealth visits for patients calling 911.

WHO YOU ARE

A RightSite physician is not your standard EM job, and many EM physicians may not be the best fit for this job. The concept of Telehealth for the EM physician is relatively new, and RightSite is one of the first companies to have a broad reach into markets where your expertise and decision-making matter.

A RightSite physician brings the experience and judgment of seasoned Emergency Medicine physician to the telehealth process and combines it with real-time navigation services. In this partnership, RightSite delivers high-quality patient care while significantly reducing unnecessary ED visits.

You will use technology not just to execute patient care but to transform how care is delivered. At RightSite, you will meet patients where they are, at the moment they need you most.

The reason we need seasoned EM physicians is not just for experience but for judgment. Rapid, high-stakes risk assessment is a skill that only develops after years of independent practice. At RightSite, you will be making these decisions remotely, often with limited information and with variable patient presentations. If you thrive in uncertain, dynamic, and fast-moving environments, this is the job for you.

CRITICAL CLARIFICATIONS ABOUT THIS ROLE

  • This job requires set hours, similar to an ED shift. While remote, this is not a flexible telehealth role — you must be fully available for your scheduled shifts.
  • You cannot do this job while engaged in another compensated activity. You cannot work a shift while also working in an ED or clinic — this job demands your full attention during scheduled hours.
  • Patient volume varies significantly. Some shifts may have extended periods with few calls, while others may feel like a full-capacity ER shift. You must be comfortable with this variability.
  • You must have at least 5 years of post-residency experience as an EM attending. This job requires rapid, independent risk assessment, which is not a skill that is learned in residency.

HOW PATIENTS REACH RIGHTSITE

RightSite physicians see patients via two primary activation pathways:

  1. Field Activation (EMS On Scene):
    • EMS arrives, evaluates the patient, and activates RightSite.
    • Most familiar process — similar to an ER handoff.
    • Most information available — vital signs and EMS report included.
    • High alternate care success rate.
  2. Dispatch Activation (911 Call Transfers):
    • 911 dispatchers transfer calls to RightSite before EMS arrives.
    • Limited information—no pre-screening, often no vitals.
    • Lower success rate than Field Activation.

All patients are seen without insurance screening — RightSite bills insurance directly after your evaluation occurs.

AS A RIGHTSITE PHYSICIAN, YOU WILL HAVE MULTIPLE ROLES

  • Treating Physician: Deliver care via audio-visual telehealth, with the expectation that you will be professionally dressed (scrubs, polo, or white coat provided by RSH).
  • Care Team Member: Collaborate with a non-clinical navigator who assists with patient logistics and follow-up.
  • EMS Liaison: Communicate effectively and respectfully with EMS, Fire, and Dispatch.
  • Clinical Expert: Provide ongoing feedback and insight to improve RightSite’s medical services.

SCHEDULING & SHIFT EXPECTATIONS

  • Shifts are in 4-hour blocks, with part-time and full-time options available.
    • Part-time: 56 hours/month.
    • Full-time: 120 hours/month.
  • Shift splitting and cross-coverage between colleagues is encouraged.
  • Physicians submit 16 more hours of shift requests than required, and RSH will honor requests.
  • Shift requests are due by the 15th of the prior month, with schedules finalized within 2 days.
  • You must check in before your shift, attend a huddle, and be available for immediate call response (within 60 seconds).
