Polymers & Fluids segment is composed of highly branded products serving diverse markets that require value-added, differentiated solutions. Job Description
Internship within our Research and Development department in Danvers, MA. The main project scope for our internship is below:
Summary:
The main responsibility will be developing new adhesive products and/or evaluating alternative raw materials to support our strategic sourcing initiatives.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Assist or lead projects for either developing new adhesives and/or qualifying raw materials for use in adhesive formulations.
- Research possible raw material substitutions or consolidations beginning with internet searches and comparisons on paper (TDS, SDS, C of A’s) of raw material characteristics.
- Reaching out to vendors and distributors for input as needed.
- Develop adhesive formulations using Design of Experiment (DOE) methodology and optimize the properties of the adhesives based on DOE results.
- Mixing small lab batches of experimental adhesive formulations and preparing samples for testing.
- Testing of final products key performance indicators including: viscosity, density, cure time, exotherm, compressive/tensile strength, adhesion, electrical properties, etc.
- Presentation of the data to the R&D team for review and decision making.
- Document all work in a lab notebook and prepare a PowerPoint presentation to be presented to the Senior Leadership Team at the end of the internship.
Qualifications
- Ability to safely work in a neat and organized manner
- Pursuing a Degree in Organic Chemistry, Polymer Chemistry, or Material Science Discipline
- Ability to work on own initiative as well as part of a team
- Excellent communication and written skills
- Self-motivated
- Familiarity with thermoset polymer chemistry concepts or similar scientific discipline is preferred
