Job Description

Position: Staff Software Engineer- Database

Location: San Jose, CA

Role Overview: As a Database Expert specializing in scalability, Schema Design and Query Optimization, you will collaborate closely with our development and engineering teams to design, implement, and maintain efficient and scalable database structures. You will leverage your deep expertise in database management to ensure optimal query performance and data integrity, ultimately contributing to the seamless operation of our Zscaler core platform.

Responsibilities/What You’ll Do:

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand application requirements and translate them into effective database schema designs.
• Design, implement, and maintain database structures that align with industry best practices and meet the scalability needs of our growing user base.
• Optimize query performance by analyzing and fine-tuning SQL queries, indexes, and data retrieval strategies.
• Identify and troubleshoot database-related performance bottlenecks, ensuring timely resolution to maintain system responsiveness.
• Monitor database health, proactively identifying and addressing issues to prevent downtime and data loss.
• Collaborate with development teams to review code and provide guidance on database-related best practices.
• Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in database technologies and trends, recommending relevant improvements for the organization’s database strategy.

Qualifications

Qualifications/Your Background:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (Master’s preferred).
• Proven experience (8+ years) in database schema design and query optimization for SaaS applications or similar platforms.
• Proficiency in SQL and strong knowledge of database systems such as  PostgreSQL or similar.
• Familiarity with cloud-based database solutions (e.g., AWS RDS, Google Cloud SQL) is desirable.
• Demonstrated ability to diagnose and resolve database performance issues.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with an attention to detail.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
• Experience in networking product, firewall, cloud security testing & automation and C is a plus

Additional Information

The base salary range for this full-time position is $ 150,000 to $175,000+ Bonus+Equity+ Benefits. Zscaler’s salary ranges are benchmarked and are determined by role and level. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations and could be higher or lower based on a multitude of factors, including job-related skills, experience, location and relevant education or training.
