Company Description: John W. Stone Oil Distributor, LLC is a leader in dockside, mid-stream, and offshore distribution of marine fuels and lubricants along the Mississippi River, from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, to Venice, Louisiana, and into the Gulf of Mexico, as well as along the U.S. Gulf Coast.
Position: Truck Driver, Gretna
Reports To: Truck Dispatch
Worksite: Gretna, Louisiana.
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, plus weekend rotation, including some overnight travel.
Essential Duties:
- Drive, operate, and maneuver a Class 8 vehicle combination (tractor-trailer) in a safe, lawful, and efficient manner under all types of circumstances and conditions, including intercity, intracity, and rural travel, backing into and maneuvering in close confines, operating in all types of terrain and weather conditions, driving for extended periods of time, driving at night, at irregular work/rest cycles and meal periods, operating with abrupt changes to schedules, hours, duties, routes, and working conditions, and operating in extreme weather and temperatures.
- Inspect vehicle and ensure that all necessary corrections and repairs are completed in accordance with the vehicle’s owner’s manual, as well as with all federal, state, and company requirements.
- Perform general maintenance on the vehicle as needed, including fueling, changing oil filters, adjusting brakes, replacing or repairing light bulbs, lenses, and reflectors, maintaining all fluids and air, removing and installing tire chains and other types of traction devices, checking and maintain tire air pressure, and the like.
- Plan delivery trips that use minimum variances and the shortest, correct, and legal routes for the timely and efficient delivery of freight products, using maps, road atlases, and other geographical documents.
- Use Electronic Logging Device (ELD) to record hours and complete checklists.
- Load, unload, handle, and secure cargo and liquid products in a safe, lawful, and efficient manner, including identifying and verifying types of products using paperwork and information on product placards, accurately measuring and gauging liquid products during loading and unloading, properly loading product in the tank trailer vehicle to meet all weight laws, securing all internal and external doors, hatches, and valves to prevent damage and losses, hooking and unhooking hoses and trailers, lowering and raising landing gear, climbing ladders, climbing on trailers, handling, moving, carrying, and lifting various types of product and product containers, entering and exiting tractor cab and trailer, and the like.
- Complete and submit paperwork in compliance with federal, state, and company requirements, including invoices, bills of lading, delivery tickets, freight documents, vehicle inspection reports, daily record of duty status logs, Declaration of Inspections (DOI), and the like.
- Communicate and interact with customers, vendors, company personnel, and the general public in a tactful, effective, and respectful manner.
- Perform daily check-in calls and keep regular communications with Dispatch.
- Report status updates, including loaded and unloaded status.
- Report accidents, violations, claims, damages, losses, vehicle breakdowns, and the like.
- Report changes in estimated arrivals, departures, and available times, as well as delays, changes in routing, and availability to work. <
