Job Summary:The Office Chief is responsible for the development, implementation and evaluation of the statewide dental public health prevention and oral health workforce training initiatives. This includes oversight of the state mandated Arizona Dental Sealant Program & the Arizona Fluoride Mouth rinse Program, and general oral health promotion initiatives. This position oversees the Office of Oral health and serves as a lead within Arizona and advises dental and primary care professionals and local public health agencies regarding oral health issues. This position attends and provides leadership, development and implementation of the Oral Health State Plan. The Office Chief is responsible for the oversight of the maternal and child oral health prevention programming, community development activities, and grant writing. This position works with the Bureau of Women and Children's Health to meet national objectives set forth by the Maternal and Child Health Block Grant related to improving the oral health needs of children, especially high risk populations. This position engages with key staff of the Bureau of Assessment and Evaluation on oral health data analysis and evaluation. The position is responsible for the daily leadership and supervision of 4 team members in the Office of Oral Health. This position is responsible for management of approximately a $2 million operating budget including federal, state, donations, and the state Oral Health fund. Management of the Office requires a high level servant leader who can work directly with a variety of stakeholder groups, including state and national associations, dental workforce, community action groups and the federal government. The position requires expertise in clinical practice in any capacity equivalent to dental hygienist and/or dental assistant. This position reports directly to the Bureau Chief of Women's & Children's Health.

Job Duties:Provides leadership, training, strategic direction and program oversight of dental public health, oral disease prevention, and oral health promotion for ADHS.
Provides direct supervision, coaching and guidance to direct reports (work assignments, setting priorities, hiring, discipline, provide training, approving leave requests, and preparing employee appraisals).
Plans, directs, coordinates and evaluates the Office's strategic planning, oral health state plan, grant writing, and activities to include writing progress reports, position papers, correspondence, memorandums and other documents related to the mission and objectives of the Office of Oral Health. Review of legislation, rules, policy analysis and development.
Participates or leads agency, division, or bureau strategic initiatives, including advancing health equity, public health accreditation, and continuous quality improvement.
Attends and represents the ADHS at local, state, regional and national meetings, boards, committees, associations and professional organizations. Serves as the state public health dental director.
