About the role

General Summary

The Senior Director-Patient Care Services is an executive nurse leader who works in collaboration with the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) to provide leadership and strategic direction for the practice of nursing and nursing operations within WellSpan York Hospital (WYH).  This position plays a pivotal role as a transformational leader, supporting the CNO in achieving WYH Nursing Strategic Plan and WellSpan Health’s mission, vision, and values.  The Senior Director works with the CNO to facilitate an interdisciplinary team approach to the delivery of patient care for inpatient services, behavioral health services, and various ambulatory services.  Assists in planning, implementing, and evaluating standards and practices for patient care, and the delivery of care and services and works closely with physician and system leaders to enhance the delivery, quality, and efficiency of patient care. 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Works with the CNO to develop and implement the strategic vision and plan for nursing services at WYH. This includes strategies for human experience, quality and safety metrics, budget preparation, priority setting and program development. 
  • Provides leadership oversight for assigned nursing divisions and departments. Oversees initiatives for assigned areas related to patient safety, quality outcomes, patient experience, and regulatory readiness.   
  • Works with the CNO in developing and implementing hospital-wide nursing practice and patient care programs that are based in evidence-based practice and current nursing research 
  • Collaborates with the CNO on continuous performance improvement initiatives to reduce variation in clinical care and impact on efficiency, cost, and quality through use of the  Lean Management System.
  • Partners with the CNO to support professional governance, professional practice, and nursing innovation and to advance nursing excellence and achieve/sustain a culture consistent with ANCC Magnet® Recognition
  • Works with the CNO and division leaders on to analyze data and benchmarking to drive improvements in processes and outcomes
  • Mentors, coaches and develops leadership talent within their division and department of oversight. Provides leadership learning opportunities as appropriate.
  • Works with the CNO to promote professional development, clinical advancement, certification, and life-long learning
  • Supports preparation for Magnet® designation and site visit
  • Works with CNO to ensure compliance in all nursing practice areas as assigned.
  • Ensures areas with direct responsibility develop and implement physician, administrative, nurse triads. Serves as role model with CNO for implementation.
  • Serves as the nursing executive leader in the absence of the CNO
     

 

Qualifications

  • Master's Degree Nursing or related healthcare field required.
  • At least 6 years in nursing with leadership experience in hospital/healthcare required.
  • Licensed Registered Nurse Upon Hire or Registered Nurse Multi State License Upon Hire required
  • Board Certified Nurse Executive or Board-Certified Nurse Executive, Advanced Certification required or obtained within one year of hire.
  • Excellent human relations and oral/written communications skills
  • Proven leadership skills.
  • Track record of clinical improvement results.
  • Must possess an advanced understanding of patient care delivery systems, healthcare finance, and policy and governance.
