The Department of Marine Resources, is seeking motivated, independent individuals to fill a vacant Plant Maintenance Engineer I position in West Boothbay Harbor.
BRIEF JOB DESCRIPTION: This position oversees and maintains the operation and repair of all mechanical systems at the West Boothbay Harbor Laboratory and office complex and the Burnt Island Education Center. Systems include the steam generating plant, all heating, ventilation and cooling systems, Honeywell XBS System, digital and pneumatic control devices, sea-water pumps, sea-water multimedia filters and sea-water piping systems, air handler units, variable frequency drive units, air compressors, refrigerated air drier, two low pressure Cleaver Brooks boilers and all auxiliary equipment and related systems. This position reviews needs for electrical and plumbing projects, makes emergency repairs and oversees electrical and plumbing installations; maintains and monitors lab-waste neutralization equipment; and installs, repairs or oversees repairs and installation of various laboratory equipment (autoclaves, tube washers, dish washers, ice makers, incubators, water baths, reverse osmosis units). Other duties include facility snow removal updating Standard Operating Procedures for all mechanical, electrical, digital and sea water systems in coordination with Project Manager; updating the Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasure Plan as required by the Federal Department of Environmental Protection; submission of Tier II chemical reporting; and maintaining up-to-date Safety Data Sheets (SDS) information for the Carpenter Shop, ordering Boiler Shop and the Custodian supplies as required by Federal and State OSHA. The position writes safety standards, maintains inventory lists, maintains and monitors all utility costs, and oversees contracted work.
The position works with the entire maintenance staff on emergency procedures for all operating systems as outlined in the Standard Operating Procedures and assists with other facility maintenance, operations, and repairs as needed.
This position must be available for callouts on a rotating schedule.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: (Entry level knowledges, skills, and/or abilities may be acquired through, but not limited to the following coursework/training and/or experience). Four (4) years of experience in the operation and maintenance of steam generating plants and maintenance and repair of water, heating and electrical systems in a large commercial or public plant.
LICENSING/REGISTRATION/CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: (These must be met by all employees prior to attaining permanent status in this class). Possession of an engineer's license of the class required by the State of Maine for the equipment to be operated.
