Position overview

The Illinois Department of Corrections is seeking to fill the position of DOC Deputy Chief of Oral Health Services. This role supports the Chief of Oral Health Services in managing statewide dental operations and equipment procurement, overseeing clinical quality and consistency of dental care across all Illinois Department of Corrections (IDOC) facilities and leads statewide quality improvement initiatives, including chart audits, performance metrics, and corrective action plans. This role additionally conducts facility site visits to evaluate dental clinic operations, infection control, and adherence to IDOC policies and collaborates with facility leadership to ensure safe, efficient clinical workflows and appropriate security procedures. Essential Functions

  • Serves as the Deputy Chief of Oral Health Services by providing statewide clinical dental leadership
  • Manages statewide dental program administration and operations
  • Develops and oversees a statewide dental quality improvement and compliance program
  • Plans and implements statewide dental strategic planning and public health integration
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned, which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires the applicant to be a Doctor of Dental Surgery or a Doctor of Dental Medicine
  • Requires an active, unrestricted Illinois dental license
  • Requires prior experience equivalent to four (4) years of progressively responsible clinical dental experience, including supervisory or administrative responsibilities

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prefers at least two (2) years of experience working within a correctional system, public health agency, or large healthcare organization
  • Prefers a Master’s degree in Public Health, Healthcare Administration, or related field
  • Prefers at least two (2) years of experience with quality improvement frameworks (Lean, PDSA, Six Sigma)
  • Prefers knowledge of correctional healthcare, public health principles, and Illinois regulatory requirements
  • Prefers strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills

Conditions of Employment

  • Required to maintain an active, unrestricted Illinois dental license while in this position
  • Requires ability to travel in the performance of duties, with overnight stays as appropriate. Requires appropriate, valid driver’s license
  • Requires the ability to be on-call
  • Requires the use of agency-supplied technology
  • Requires ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check
  • Requires ability to pass a drug screen. The use of unauthorized drugs by an employee, regardless of position held, is prohibited
