The successful candidate will teach six undergraduate courses per academic year, with a standard 3/3 teaching load. Faculty receive a one-course reassignment during their first year and an additional one-course reassignment during the probationary tenure-track period. Opportunities for summer teaching may also be available. We welcome applicants representing a broad range of research interests and are especially interested in teacher-scholars who use quantitative methods in their research. Candidates should demonstrate an active and promising research agenda with the potential to produce high-quality scholarly publications. The successful candidate will be expected to integrate research into their teaching, contribute to Course-based Undergraduate Research Experiences (CUREs), and actively mentor students pursuing undergraduate research opportunities. Teaching responsibilities may include undergraduate courses in research methods, statistics, and the candidate’s area of specialization. Highly qualified candidates will demonstrate a strong interdisciplinary orientation, a record of student-centered teaching and learning, and a commitment to community engagement. Preference will be given to candidates with experience teaching and mentoring students at Hispanic-Serving Institutions or working with majority-Latinx student populations. The ability to connect sociological knowledge and research skills to workforce preparation, career readiness, and students’ professional goals is also highly valued.

The Sociology program is housed in the Department of Sociology and Communication within the College of Arts and Sciences. The program offers both a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Science in Sociology and contributes to three interdisciplinary minors: Mexican American, Latinx, and Borderlands Studies; Women’s and Gender Studies; and Legal Studies. The department has an established record of engaging students through undergraduate research, experiential learning, and collaborations with community partners on grant-funded projects.
