Our Newton, MA (near Boston) office is actively searching for Geostructural Engineer with 2 to 4 years of experience, to perform planning and design for waterfront infrastructure and ports. The majority of this work is related to our extensive work on Offshore Wind ports, however, other projects will include breakbulk and container ports, marine terminals, vessel mooring and berthing structures, bulkheads, breakwaters, large and small marinas and shore protection structures.  

The ideal candidate will have experience in soil-structure interaction and both geotechnical and structural analysis and design. The candidate will also work with the offshore wind port planning team to perform OSW port site selection and feasibility studies, create logistical models of OSW ports and create OSW port layouts for clients on a worldwide basis.

Duties and responsibilities:

Structural:

  • Perform analysis and design of waterfront structures (timber, steel and concrete) 
  • Develop issued for construction plans and specifications 
  • Participate in topside inspection of waterfront structures and compile condition reports
  • Calculate construction quantity estimates 

Geotechnical:

  • Specify and review field exploration and geotechnical investigation reports laboratory testing
  • Develop subsurface profiles based on geotechnical investigation reports laboratory testing
  • Make recommendations for soil parameters to be used in design process
  • Perform axial and lateral analysis and design for deep foundations, shallow foundations, and retaining structures
  • Analyze and design revetments, embankments, and site stabilization measures

General:

  • Work closely with other architects, engineers, scientists, project managers, etc. on multi-discipline projects
  • Office construction administration including review of shop drawings and technical submittals
  • Perform construction site inspections and prepare inspection reports. Provide field resolution of construction site issues

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with preferred focus in Structural or Geotechnical Engineering. A Master’s degree in Geostructural, Structural or Geotechnical Engineering is strongly preferred
  • Engineer in Training required
  • 2 to 4 years of marine/waterfront design and/or construction oversight experience related to ports, marinas, vessel mooring and berthing structures, breakwater and/or shore protection structures
    • Alternate acceptable experience: 2 to 4 years of general design experience with desire to learn to design ports, marinas, vessel mooring and berthing structures, breakwater and/or shore protection structures
  • Background on structural modeling with nonlinear elements and/or soil-structure interaction preferred
