About the role

Overview

Oracle Media Services is hiring a Principal Core Infrastructure Engineer, IC4, to help lead Studio in the Cloud: a product line focused on enabling studio-grade creative workloads on OCI. This individual contributor will own ambiguous features from the design stage through production readiness, with emphasis on OCI Batch, Global Object Storage, customer-critical blockers, and operational maturity.

Why OCI

OCI is building cloud infrastructure for demanding media, creative, AI, and high-performance workloads where scale, reliability, cost, and customer trust all matter. This role offers the chance to shape how studios run production-grade creative workflows in the cloud while improving the engineering systems, operational practices, and AI-enabled delivery patterns that make customer adoption repeatable.

Org Job Duties

Leads development and begins architecting components of scalable, elastic distributed systems. Defines and enforces scalability requirements for owned components; optimizes code and data paths for high‑throughput, hyper‑scale workloads; and leverages data plane platforms for large‑scale retrieval, storage, and processing. Designs fault‑tolerant, in‑service‑upgradable systems using redundancy, replication, failover, and policies for partitions, applying load‑shedding, throttling, and rate‑limiting to handle network unreliability while meeting SLOs. Establishes KPIs and telemetry; builds proactive dashboards and alerts; and designs complex validation (fault injection, brownouts), replication, and synchronization for correctness and durability. Proactively diagnoses and resolves production issues, mentors peers, and ensures operational readiness. Implements robust security controls, executes remediation, maintains compliance documentation, and develops IaC and automation that enable safe patching, updates, and rollbacks within change‑management plans.
Team Responsibilities
  • Lead end-to-end design and execution for critical Studio in the Cloud features across OCI Batch, Global Object Storage and related platform dependencies.

  • Drive Global Object Storage acceptance and production-readiness workstreams by clarifying ownership, sequencing dependencies, and closing technical and operational gaps.
  • Strengthen operational posture through observability, runbooks, incident-prevention practices, readiness reviews, reliability metrics, and customer escalation discipline.
  • Partner across Oracle Media Services, OCI infrastructure, product, support, and customer-facing teams to remove blockers and align roadmap delivery with customer commitments.
  • Introduce practical AI-first engineering workflows that reduce reporting toil, improve delivery confidence, and help engineers move faster without weakening review, security, or quality practices.
  • Mentor engineers through design reviews, technical direction, execution planning, and examples of senior-level ownership in ambiguous environments.
  • Translate customer adoption blockers into actionable technical plans with clear risks, milestones, tradeoffs, and operational handoffs.
  • Communicate technical status, decisions, risks, and options crisply to senior engineering, product, and operational stakeholders.

Team Qualifications
  • Senior-level experience designing, building, and operating distributed cloud services, workflow orchestration systems, media platforms, GPU infrastructure, or high-scale production platforms.
  • Evidence of leading ambiguous initiatives through architecture, execution ownership, dependency management, and production readiness as an individual contributor.
  • Strong system design judgment across scalability, reliability, observability, operational safety, cost, and customer impact.
  • Hands-on experience improving service operations, including incident response, runbooks, reliability metrics, readiness reviews, or customer escalation processes.
  • Experience using or introducing AI-assisted engineering workflows, developer-productivity automation, reporting automation, or SDLC improvements in a quality-conscious environment.
  • Ability to influence without direct authority across engineering, product, operations, support, and infrastructure teams.
  • Clear written and verbal communication for architecture tradeoffs, executive-ready status, roadmap risks, and operational decisions.
  • Background in media workflows, cloud rendering, creative production platforms, Batch systems, GPU scheduling, HPC, or adjacent infrastructure is strongly relevan
