Job Description: 

Schnabel Engineering is seeking a part-time Senior Geotechnical Engineer to support our growing business in Texas. Qualified candidates will be well-rounded, organized problem solvers with an interest in managing complex projects, working with a team of skilled engineers, and developing younger staff. The qualified candidate should possess detailed knowledge and practice of geotechnical theory associated with foundations, slope stability, ground improvement measures, etc., particularly on major commercial, state, federal and industrial projects. 

Job Responsibilities: 

  • Develop geotechnical engineering scope of services and fee estimates 
  • Planning and oversight of geotechnical investigations. 
  • Manage/review geotechnical and construction phase observation and testing field work performed by others 
  • Assign, review and interpret geotechnical laboratory tests 
  • Perform/review geotechnical engineering analyses and calculations 
  • Develop geotechnical engineering recommendations and write geotechnical engineering reports 
  • Perform project management activities including communicating resource needs, managing client expectations, planning and delegating work, management of project budgets, invoicing and backlog reporting 
  • Manage client relationships as required 
  • Manage and mentor junior engineers, geologists and technicians commensurate with experience level 
  • Work as a team member within the office and across the business unit in other Schnabel offices to effectively balance workload among available resources 
  • Participate in business development activities as instructed by the branch leader 

Required Skills/Experience: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from an ABET-accredited program, Master’s degree preferred 
  • Professional Engineering license or 18+ years of relevant professional experience in consulting geotechnical engineering 
  • Willingness and ability to travel 
  • AutoCAD and GIS skills suitable for developing geotechnical deliverables 
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills 
  • Ability to multi-task 
  • Strong work ethic and a desire for continual self-improvement 
  • Ability to thrive in a collaborative team environment 
  • Confidence and independence, with a shared sense of responsibility 

Preferred Skills/Experience: 

  • Master’s Degree or higher in Geotechnical or Civil Engineering  
  • Proficiency with gINT software and standard geotechnical engineering analysis software such as LPILE, APILE and SHAFT, OpenGround, Plaxis, GeoStudio, Settle3D and FoSSA, or similar progra
