Chiral Perovskite Materials Researcher Summer Intern

Our program is highly selective, hosting only a handful of interns each year, ensuring personalized attention and ample opportunities to work closely with BlueHalo team members. This 3-month summer student internship opportunity to support the Optoelectronic Device and Materials Research Group within the Material and Manufacturing Directorate (RXEE) of the Air Force Research Labs (AFRL) as part of the Biological, Electronic, and Nanoscale Department of the BlueHalo Air Force Business Unit. This position will require working with government customers at AFRL to develop, synthesize, and identify processing methods for creating new hybrid organic-inorganic materials with chiroptic response. These materials will be leveraged for novel information-processing architectures.

Tasks

• Formulation and synthesis of perovskite materials

• Optimize process parameters for the formation of stable chiral phases in bulk and thin film morphologies.

 

• Fabricate and characterize test structure devices for optical and electronic response

Desired Skills:

• Knowledge and experience for forming perovskite materials including solution phase and gas phase crystal growth
• Optoelectronic device measurements
• Technical Presentation of Scientific Research
• Thin film/bulk material characterization techniques (Atomic Force Microscpopy, X-Ray Diffraction, Etc)
• Optical Characterization Techniques (UV-Vis, Circular dichroism, and Circular  polarized luminescence spectroscopy)

Eligibility:

• Minimum 18 years of age
• Graduate level student towards a degree in Material Science, Materials Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, or related STEM fields
• Due to the nature of this position, U.S. Citizenship is required
• Current enrollment in an accredited U.S. college or university 
• Ability to commit to 10 calendar weeks in the internship
