SUMMARY
Edge is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to support mechanical design activities and assist with a variety of secondary engineering and configuration management tasks. This role contributes to both hands-on mechanical engineering efforts and essential support activities such as drawing releases, bill of materials (BOM) updates, label creation, and documentation control. You will be part of a fast-paced engineering environment supporting the development and sustainment of advanced uncrewed aircraft systems (UAS). This position offers a strong foundation in mechanical engineering processes while providing cross-functional exposure to product lifecycle management and documentation standards.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The following job functions are a basic requirement but are not limited to and may be assigned other duties.
- Assist with mechanical design, modeling, and drafting of components and assemblies using CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks).
- Participate in drawing creation and revision, ensuring proper documentation, tolerancing, and adherence to internal standards.
- Support drawing release processes, including routing, review coordination, and change documentation.
- Help maintain and update bills of materials (BOMs) in the product data management (PDM) system.
- Create and update product labels, part numbers, and engineering documentation.
- Assist in engineering change orders (ECOs), ensuring accuracy, traceability, and compliance with configuration control procedures.
- Collaborate with configuration management, manufacturing, and quality teams to ensure design intent is carried through to production.
- Support prototype builds and documentation for new or modified mechanical parts.
- Perform basic mechanical analysis and testing support under the guidance of senior engineers.
- Stay organized and detail-oriented, ensuring a high level of documentation quality and version control.
QUALIFICATIONS
The following are non-exhaustive qualifications for the position:
- 1-3 years of professional experience in mechanical engineering or technical role.
- Internship or co-op experience in mechanical design or manufacturing support preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Willingness to learn, ask questions, and support team success.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary environment.
- Experience with SolidWorks PDM or similar document management systems.
- Familiarity with labeling standards, part numbering systems, and configuration management practices.
- Prior experience supporting ECO processes, drawing release workflows, or BOM updates in an engineering team is preferred.
- Experience in aerospace, defense, or complex mechanical system environments is preferred
