About the role

The Team

Royal Hobart Hospital is Tasmania’s largest hospital and major referral centre. As the major clinical teaching and research centre, RHH collaborates with the University of Tasmania and other institutions.  All our services work closely together to focus on delivering excellence in healthcare to achieve improved outcomes for our consumers, our workforce, and the Tasmanian community.

The Paediatric Surgical Department comprises three full-time surgeons delivering specialist care for neonates, children, and adolescents up to 16 years of age, including general, neonatal, urological, oncological, thoracic, trauma, and minimally invasive surgery.

The team performs around 700 procedures annually, provides neonatal surgery for approximately 60 babies each year, and offers outreach services to patients at Launceston General Hospital.

The Role 

  • Provision of clinical services of the highest possible standard to neonates, infants, children and their families.
  • Pursuit of improved outcomes for critically ill neonates, infants and children in Tasmania by participating in teaching and research relevant to paediatric and neonatal intensive care.

Demonstrated ability to...

  • Provide inpatient and outpatient care at a tertiary referral teaching hospital standard.
  • Manage patients within the disciplines of Paediatric Surgery.
  • Undertake and manage research activities.
  • Communicate effectively and maintain good interpersonal relationships.

  • Demonstrated capacity for undergraduate and post-graduate teaching.

Details of appointment

Fixed term full time, day worker position, working up to 76 hours per fortnight, commencing from February 2027 for 12 months.

*notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant

Salary

Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1- Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 3 $222,789 - $319,701 per annum, pro rata + 12% superannuation + access to salary packaging.

Please note that access to the Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner salary range $309,222 - $319,701 is subject to the successful applicant satisfying the criteria for Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1, 2 or 3 as outlined in the Medical Practitioners (Tasmanian State Service) Award
