Job Description Summary
Organization's Summary Statement:The Associate Research Professor will work with Dr. Tom Porter, Distinguished
University Professor in the Department of Animal and Avian Sciences (ANSC) on
research projects related to poultry reproduction. The first existing project is to define
the mechanisms underlying the differences in egg production among individual turkey
hens within a flock. The second existing project aims to identify markers for and
mechanisms underlying semen quality in broiler breeder males. The Associate
Research Professor will be expected to write grant proposals related to poultry
reproduction in order to extend the length of the position.
Responsibilities:
• Independently conduct whole-animal, cellular, and molecular research studies.
• Coordinate research sample collection, processing, and laboratory analyses.
• Perform data management, statistical analyses, and interpretation of research
findings.
• Prepare and present research findings at scientific conferences and publish
results in peer-reviewed journals.
• Travel as required to scientific conferences and research sites in support of
projects directed by Dr. Porter.
• Serve as the senior research professional within Dr. Porter's research group,
providing scientific leadership and technical expertise.
• Interact and coordinate with departmental administrative and business office
personnel to support research operations.
• Supervise, mentor, and train undergraduate and graduate students participating
in research activities.
• Maintain accurate research records and ensure compliance with applicable
laboratory, institutional, and research protocols.
• Occasionally lift, move, or carry research supplies and equipment weighing up to
25 pounds over short distances.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Master's degree in Poultry Science, Animal Science, Biology, or a closely related
field with at least two (2) years of progressively responsible research experience
in poultry science or a related discipline.
• Prior success in writing Federal and private grant proposals is required.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare
federal reports, technical reports, grant proposals, and scientific manuscripts.
• Ability to effectively present research findings to scientific, industry, and
stakeholder audiences.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently while

Additional Job Details
Preferences:
• Ph.D. in Poultry Science or a closely related discipline.
• Demonstrated expertise in poultry research, with prior experience working
directly with poultry.
• Strong research background with a proven record of peer-reviewed publications
utilizing molecular biology and cell culture techniques.
• Demonstrated success in developing and securing federal and private research
grant funding.
