About Universal Intermodal Services Inc.

Universal Intermodal services all major US Ports and intermodal Rail Ramps and offers domestic door-to-door drayage to and from Ports, Rails, and Customer Facilities. We operate from over 40 terminals and 11 container yards. We provide Chassis, Containers, Drayage, and Services for Imports, Exports, and Domestic moves.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyze operating costs, margin trends, and profitability across all intermodal services.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, highlighting key performance indicators (KPIs) and variances.
  • Build and maintain financial models to support pricing, budgeting, forecasting, and investment decisions.
  • Conduct financial reviews of vendor/carrier contracts and asset utilization (containers, chassis, trailers).
  • Support senior management with ad-hoc analysis and scenario planning.
  • Track and report on fuel cost fluctuations and their financial impacts.
  • Work closely with operations and dispatch teams to optimize cost per load and improve margins.
  • Assist with capital planning, including equipment procurement and leasing decisions.
  • Identify opportunities for automation and process improvements in financial reporting.
  • Monitor and analyze trends in intermodal volume, freight rates, detention/demurrage, and accessorial charges.
  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards and internal financial policies.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field (MBA or CPA a plus).
  • 2–5 years of experience in financial analysis, preferably in transportation, logistics, or intermodal operations.
  • Strong understanding of intermodal operations, rail/trucking economics, and supply chain cost structures.
  • Advanced Excel skills and experience with financial modeling and forecasting tools.
  • Experience with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, NetSuite) and BI/reporting tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau) is a plus.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment with a high degree of autonomy.

Preferred Skills:

  • Knowledge of freight rate structures, equipment lease terms, and accessorial billing.
  • Understanding of key regulatory and fuel surcharge impacts on cost models.
  • Familiarity with TMS (Transportation Management Systems) or intermodal planning software.
