About the role

Description

Responsible for collaborating with all members of the Medical Management Team to  develop, implement, and manage health care services in family planning, abortion, and primary care. The Co Directors of Clinical Services work in conjunction with physicians, clinicians, registered nurses, and other  ancillary staff to ensure that high quality care is delivered in a customer service driven environment. They also  collaborate with the various departments of PPMW to accomplish mission-driven goals for the affiliate.  

Requirements

1. Patient Care

  • Practices independently as a clinician with a high level of proficiency, providing evidence-based, comprehensive sexual and reproductive healthcare.
  • Provides patient care in medical and procedural abortion programs, including provision of medication abortions, performance of procedural abortions (as competency allows), and participation in ultrasound services.
  • Maintains productivity expectations and compliance standards of the agency.
  • Functions as "back up" for licensed staff as appropriate.
  • Complies with all safety and emergency policies and procedures
  • Works independently to maintain up-to-date knowledge in the health care field via attending seminars and workshops and reading relevant material.

2. Each Co-Director will serve as the designated Program Director for one of the following service areas:

o Abortion Focus:

  • Sedation (both minimal and moderate)
  • Ultrasound Services

o Family Planning Focus:

  • Gender Affirming Care including Gender Affirming Hormone Therapy
  • Functions as the Coordinator for the Pre-Exposure and Post-Exposure HIV Prophylaxis Programs.

3. In conjunction with the Chief Medical Officer, revises PPMW MS&Gs with each update, develops training materials and trains clinicians and staff on MS&G updates.

  • Ensures standardization among clinical procedures within and between the health centers as per the PPMW Medical Standards and Guidelines (MS&G)
  • Develops new workflows as new clinical services are added and the MS&Gs are updated.

4. Participates in the hiring of licensed staff. Coordinates the orientation and training program for these professionals in conjunction with the Training Coordinator.


5. Provides clinical support and leadership by teaching, coaching, and consulting on clinical/case management issues for licensed staff at meetings and during health center hours.

  • Provides clinical training to clinicians and staff regarding abortion, ultrasound, and other sexual and reproductive health care services, as well as non-clinical trainings, as requested by the Chief Medical Officer and Chief Operations Officer.
  • Serves as a remote resource person for clinical staff in conjunction with the Chief Medical Officer.

6. Manages scheduling of licensed staff, including approving time-off requests and schedule changes.

7. Manages the 24 hour on-call system including scheduling the on-call shifts for clinicians and RNs and working directly with the after-hours call service to address concerns. Maintains After-Hours Call Log to ensure appropriate documentation and follow up. Performs regular call audits. Shares responsibility for providing backup coverage for after-hours call.

8. Participates in volunteer training and community education as assigned the Chief Medical Officer and Chief Operations Officer.

9. Collaborates with members of the Medical Management Team to develop internal processes to support the expansion of services offered by PPMW. Creates associated education materials and workflows. Trains health center staff in preparation for implementation. Provides support and follow up training after implementation to ensure proficiency and accuracy.

10. Assists with the facilitation of clinician, nurse, and center managers’ meetings. Attends and participates in health center staff meetings, physician meetings, and trainings.

11. Assists with health center flow through problem-solving and workflow solutions.

12. Provides oversight and support to the Centralized Follow Up staff. Develops workflows, protocols, and standing orders for CFU staff in conjunction with the Chief Medical Officer.

13. Responsible for the annual clinical observation of all licensed staff and the sonographer as part of the annual performance review process, and in coordination with the Chief Medical Officer, provides input on all licensed staff and sonographer performance evaluations.

14. Actively participates in all clinical quality, compliance, and risks management efforts, including performance and review of routine service audits.
