- Clinical Personnel: Strictly adheres to standard precautions by adhering to the usage of personal protective equipment when handling blood or body fluids.
- Non-Clinical Personnel: Washes hands and other skin surfaces with soap and water thoroughly and often in an effort to control spreading of germs within the department and facility.
- Adheres to isolation procedures at all times as applicable.
· Adheres to the following environmental care standards.
- Demonstrates adequate knowledge of safety policies and procedures, the use of MSDS sheets, hazardous material procedures, and safety codes.
- Respond appropriately to any Codes while working any shift (Code Blue, Code Gray, Code Silver, Code Amber, Code Red, Code Orange, and Rapid Response Team).
- Demonstrates adequate knowledge of security issues, i.e., personal protection, protection of personal and hospital property.
· Participates in quality initiatives as needed.
· Be familiar with and comply with the Mid-Valley Hospital & Clinic Personnel Handbook and Policies.
- Be familiar with the collective bargaining agreement (Union Contract) of the UFCW3000 and Mid-Valley Hospital.
Essential Job Functions
- Schedule procedures, surgeries, appointments for patients according to Mid-Valley Hospital policies and procedures.
- Successfully practice HIPAA compliance and full confidentiality of PHI.
- Copy and distribute schedules of all areas to the appropriate departments as necessary.
- Back up Business Office personnel as needed.
- Scheduler may work in the outpatient, emergency or inpatient areas.
- Maintain all office supplies as well as all the forms used in the department.
- Assist in care and maintenance of department equipment and supplies
- Responsible for reception duties including answering a multiline phone system; taking messages and transferring calls.
- Perform routine typing and clerical duties.
- Perform other duties as directed by the Business Office Supervisor.
- Demonstrate initiative for learning new procedures.
- Demonstrate a thorough knowledge and adherence to policies and protocols.
- Maintain established department policies, procedures, objectives, quality assurance, safety, environmental and infection control.
- Attend required meetings and educational programs as directed.
- Maintain department records, reports and files as required.
- Practice established infection control standards.
- Report all pertinent information to the Business Office Supervisor.
- Provide excellent customer service with all contacts; patients, relatives, public, physicians and co-workers.
- Backup authorizations as needed.
- May backup or perform Data Processing functions as needed.
- Provide estimates to patients regarding cost of procedures/ surgeries according to procedure.
- Assists and advises patients in obtaining alternative financial sources to finance hospital obligations.
- Interface with Case Management staff as needed. Schedule surgeries according the hospital policies and procedures.
- Schedule Dietary patients according to hospital policies and procedures.
- Recognize chain of command by reporting pertinent information to the Business Office Supervisor.
- Maintain confidentiality of patient, tactful and diplomatic in contacts with patients, relatives, public, physicians and co-workers.
- Respect patient's privacy, making provisions for such at all times.
- Demonstrate an awareness of self-responsibility and accountability for own practices.
- This position may, depending on department needs and staffing, be subject to work different shifts and/or holidays and/or weekends.
