This internship offers the opportunity to work with the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL), collaborating with a multidisciplinary team of researchers focused on the development of high-performance materials. Position Overview:
We are looking for an intern to join our team and focus on the investigation of hybrid organic-inorganic polymers specifically designed for high-temperature applications. The intern will be involved in research, development, and characterization of novel polymeric materials, applying principles of polymer chemistry, polymer physics, and materials science. The work will contribute to advancing technologies critical to U.S. national security.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Conduct research focused on the development, processing, and characterization of hybrid organic-inorganic polymeric materials designed for high-temperature applications.
- Investigate chemistry-processing-property relationships and their impact on the performance of the materials.
- Apply knowledge of polymer chemistry, polymer physics, and materials science to analyze and interpret experimental data.
- Collaborate with AFRL’s multidisciplinary research teams to advance materials for national defense and aerospace applications.
- Assist in the preparation of technical reports, presentations, and publications to communicate research findings.
Requirements:
- Due to the nature of this position, US Citizenship is required.
- Currently pursuing a degree (Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D.) in Materials Science and Engineering, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Strong foundation in chemical synthesis, formulation, and characterization of polymeric materials.
- Ability to quickly learn new processing and characterization techniques.
- Self-motivated with a passion for research and the ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills to effectively work with researchers from different technical backgrounds.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills to report research findings clearly and effectively.
