Job Description:

Seize your opportunity with GDIT to make a personal impact as a Technical Writer supporting the Administrative Office of the US Courts (AOUSC) Case Management Systems Office (CMSO).  GDIT is your place to make meaningful contributions to this challenging project and grow a rewarding career. 

You will help support the AOUSC CMSO in its modernization effort for one of its mission-critical applications used by U.S. district and appellate court staff and external users.  CMSO has a mature agile practice using the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) and supports a broad range of complex business systems which are instrumental to the AOUSC mission.

HOW YOU WILL MAKE AN IMPACT

  • Support communications to include project management documentation requirements, preparing and reviewing presentations to users, stakeholders, and committees.
  • Create standards for documentation to leverage across programs (e.g., project management documentation and solutions architecture documentation standards).
  • Prepare operation and maintenance manuals and technical publications.
  • Gather technical information, prepare written text basic projects, and help coordinate layout and manual organization.
  • Research available development/engineering information such as drawings, design reports, equipment, and test specifications.
  • Writing, editing, and proofreading materials for reports, manuals, briefs, proposals, instructional material, catalogs, technical publications, and software and hardware documentation provided by technical personnel.
  • Arrange for word processing, duplication, and distribution of material.
  • Requirements gathering and management including written and oral communication, and customer engagement.
  • Edit narrative and graphic products to identify and correct grammatical formatting and logic errors and identifies logical inconsistencies.
  • Apply a variety of word processing, spreadsheet, and graphics tools.
  • Provide advice for the development for the process of crafting and refining ideas, cultivating sources, and developing highly complex and articulate articles.
  • Collaborate closely with technical teams to deliver appropriate and highly complex content. 

WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED

Education and Experience

  • BA/BS in English, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Engineering, or in a related discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience working in an Agile Scrum environment writing technical documentation for the software product, application, or product releases.
  • Experience in understanding and communicating all technical aspects of a software product to both highly technical and non-technical users.
  • Experience in developing technical documentation and education materials to support user experience (user guides, integration guides, installation/configuration instructions, developer guides, etc.)
  • Advanced experience specifically writing content for online help documentation, instruction materials, and user guides and manuals.
  • Experience developing and implementing content using responsive design principles and technology practices.

Required Skills and Abilities Skills:

  • Proven experience as a Technical Writer
  • Ability to quickly ascertain and understand complex applications, diagrams, user requirements, and designs with minimal assistance.
  • Demonstrated self-motivation with the ability to independently manage, prioritize multiple tasks, and identify and recommend areas for improvement.
  • Ability to collaborate, build coalitions, and work effectively in a team environment as a facilitator and team member.
  • Strong attention to detail, with the ability to consistently deliver high-quality documentation on time.
  • Must be a self-starter, strong leader, and be able to work independently with little supervision.
  • Must have exceptional written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.) or other word-processing and desktop publishing software app
