About the role

The Pharmacy Buyer is accountable for the design and execution of supply and demand planning and customer forecasting systems; and the development and implementation of a stocking optimization model to minimize costs and inventory while delivering on service requirements.

The Pharmacy Buyer assists with expenses and revenue budgets as applicable and meets customer service objectives. This position ensures and maintains compliance with all legal, regulatory and accreditation requirements.

Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for Hire:
Current certification by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB)
Current licensure with the Virginia State Board of Pharmacy

Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for continued employment:
Current certification by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB)
Current licensure with the Virginia State Board of Pharmacy

Experience REQUIRED:
Minimum of three (3) years of previous work experience as a Pharmacy Tech

Experience PREFERRED:
Four (4) or more years of previous work experience as a Pharmacy Technician
Three (3) to five (5) years of buying/purchasing and inventory management experience
Previous experience working with universally accepted inventory management concepts and applicable Standard Operating Processes and working with pharmacy information systems and automation utilized for inventory management

Education/training REQUIRED: (Note: work experience may be considered in lieu of credentials not required by law with HR approval.Work experience must be specific to role)
High school diploma or equivalent

Education/training PREFERRED:
Associate’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or closely related field

Independent action(s) required:
Communicates effectively with all staff members.
Interacts with other health care practitioners in a multidisciplinary environment.
Utilizes necessary systems to perform required tasks, displaying intermediate computer skills (i.e., Microsoft Office applications, data management, database design and maintenance)

Supervisory responsibilities (if applicable): N/A

Additional position requirements:
May be involved in teaching, both within the Pharmacy Department and in other areas of the hospital.
May assist with other items as needed.
Must be available to work all shifts, weekends, holidays, and emergency coverage.
