Position Summary

We are seeking a Customer Engineer – BI & Analytics with deep expertise in Looker (LookML, dashboards, administration) and modern BI practices. In this role, you’ll serve as a trusted technical advisor for Harness customers, helping them design, optimize, and troubleshoot analytics solutions within our white-labeled Looker integration.

This is not a traditional support role. Your work will ensure that customers unlock the full value of Harness’ Software Engineering Insights and Cloud Cost Management analytics capabilities.

About the role

  • Own end-to-end resolution of complex BI/Looker issues for customers, including LookML modeling, dashboard optimization, and data ingestion pipelines.
  • Act as a subject matter expert in Looker and BI engineering, advising customers on scalable data models, dashboard performance, and best practices for embedded analytics.
  • Troubleshoot and debug SQL transformations, LookML objects, and ETL processes across diverse customer environments.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Harness engineering, product, and data science to ensure customer feedback informs product evolution
  • Lead customer onboarding and adoption efforts for Looker-powered analytics, including training sessions, office hours, and customized dashboarding workshops.
  • Develop and share reusable best-practice templates, “blueprints,” and playbooks for in-product dashboards and KPIs.
  • Partner with customers during escalations, providing clear technical guidance and hands-on problem resolution.
  • Stay current with BI, Looker, and cloud data engineering trends to continually improve Harness’ customer-facing analytics experience.

About you

  • 2–5 years of hands-on experience in a BI Engineer, Looker Developer/Admin, or Customer Engineering role.
  • Proficiency in Looker (LookML, dashboard design, performance tuning) with a strong grasp of BI principles and embedded analytics.
  • Strong SQL skills with experience in data modeling, ETL design, and working across relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, etc.).
  • Excellent troubleshooting ability across the data stack (ETL pipelines, data transformations, dashboards).
  • Strong communicator with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and drive customer engagement.
  • Comfortable leading customer calls, trainings, and escalations in a professional, consultative manner.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure), scripting in Python for data manipulation, and version control (Git).
