Job Description
Role Purpose
The Counsel will serve as an attorney supporting the NBCUniversal Local Division. This role will provide support for 43 NBC and Telemundo television stations across the US, Regional Sports Networks, and multicast networks NBCLX, Cozi and TeleXitos. This role will focus on drafting, negotiating and closing commercial transaction agreements, affiliation agreements, program licenses and broadcast tower licenses. The position will partner closely with the Business Development/Strategy, Finance, and Operations groups to ensure consistent application of company-wide best practices.
Job Duties
- Negotiate and close commercial transactions and draft agreements for the purchasing and/or licensing of diverse types of commodities and services, including equipment, professional/consulting services, data, content and telecommunications
- Manage renewals, amendments and terminations of various agreements
- Draft and negotiate software licenses, Software as a Service and other technology agreements
- Draft and negotiate affiliation agreements with third-party station owners across the US.
- License-in content for exhibition on all platforms where the NBC and Telemundo owned television stations and the COZI, NBCLX and TeleXitos networks are distributed
- License-out content for out-of-home digital platforms and other outlets
- Advise on rights to air content on the NBC and Telemundo owned television stations, the COZI network, the TeleXitos network, and other platforms
- Draft and negotiate license agreements for broadcast towers, as well as other locations for antennas, transmitters and broadcast equipment
- Ensure consistent application of company-wide best practices, in areas such as cyber security, privacy and insurance
- Partner with specialist lawyers across NBCUniversal’s Legal Department, including litigation
- Contribute to an inclusive, collaborative, and creative team culture
Qualifications
Basic Requirements
- Law degree from an ABA-accredited law school or comparable educational institution in the relevant jurisdiction.
- Member in good standing of the State Bar of NY, or another State Bar and registered as in-house counsel
- Minimum of 4 years of transactional experience at a law firm or comparable in-house position
