Overview

The Emergency Preparedness Project Coordinator supports the Aviation Emergency Planning and Preparedness Program by managing critical projects to continuously enhance the airport’s emergency readiness and public safety profile. This role involves developing and maintaining emergency response and contingency plans, conducting risk assessments, managing emergency technology and equipment, coordinating incident response, and ensuring regulatory compliance. The Coordinator also engages in public education, community outreach, and fostering situational awareness among internal and external stakeholders. With a dual focus on aviation operations and emergency preparedness, this role demands strong project management skills and a commitment to continuous improvement and operational excellence.

Essential Job Functions

1 Develops, maintains, and updates emergency, response, and contingency plans
2 Coordinates and assists with internal and external stakeholders to enhance readiness planning and interoperability and develop awareness for operational standards
3 Assists in planning and executing emergency exercises and drills to test and improve plans; identify vulnerabilities and recommends mitigation strategies
4 Collaborates with airport departments to prioritize and address identified risks
5 Coordinates the maintenance and deployment of emergency equipment and technology
6 Manages lifecycle logistics and supply chain management (LSCM) for emergency preparedness assets
7 Provides emergency planning support in the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) during activations
8 Ensures compliance with FAA, TSA, and other federal, state, and local regulations/directives
9 Prepares and submits required reports and documentation to regulatory agencies
10 Develops and delivers public education programs to enhance passenger awareness and preparedness
11 Fosters partnerships with local organizations, airlines, and government agencies to promote preparedness and resilience initiatives
12 Monitors and assesses potential threats to airport operations, providing timely updates to internal and external stakeholders
13 Remains informed on emerging trends in aviation emergency management and integrates best practices
14 Leads projects requiring emergency preparedness involvement, ensuring scope, budget, and timeline deliverables/targets are met

Knowledge and Skills

1 Knowledge of principles of emergency management within the aviation industry.

2 Knowledge of risk assessment methodologies and mitigation strategies.

3 Knowledge of FAA regulations (Part 139) and TSA regulations relevant to airport operations.

4 Knowledge of technology/equipment supply chain logistics management.

5 Knowledge of public communication strategies and outreach techniques.

6 Skilled in writing and editing emergency plans, reports, and training materials.

7 Skilled in facilitating cross-functional stakeholder engagement and inter-agency coordination.

8 Skilled in using emergency management software and tools for planning and response.

9 Skilled in conducting effective, public-facing training sessions and public education programs.

10 Skilled in managing multiple projects simultaneously with a focus on detail and deadlines.

11 Ability to analyze complex problems and develop actionable solutions.

12 Ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences.

13 Ability to work under pressure during emergency situations while maintaining composure and clarity.

14 Ability to adapt to evolving priorities and work independently or in a team environment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Emergency, Disaster, and/or Crisis Management Aviation/Airline Management Project Management.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Four (4) years’ experience in one or more of the following categories: Emergency, Disaster, and/or Crisis Management Aviation/Airline Management.

EQUIVALENCIES:

  • High school diploma or GED plus eight (8) years of r
