The primary responsibility of this position is to promote sustainability objectives and obligations and responsibility towards people and the environment in all areas of the business. The General Manager- Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability will (1) support to increase economic benefits in line with sustainability, (2) steer continuous improvement of the Company’s ecological footprint, (3) help to secure jobs in an attractive working environment and (4) to act in an economically responsible manner.
The General Manager-Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability oversees and manages programs supporting the corporate strategy, designed to promote and represent the organization and brand as a socially responsible force in the community, based on decency, mutual respect, fairness and trust for all locations. This position will be responsible for ensuring every company of the Liebherr US Group complies with the statutory regulations of each local jurisdiction. Will be responsible for collaboration with internal and external stakeholders to develop clear objectives and deliver meaningful and measurable results. Oversees the Environmental Health and Safety team.
Responsibilities
- Ensures US locations drive towards and support the principles of the U.N Global Compact as well as U.N. Sustainable Development goals through product and services, environment and energy, employees and society as well sustainable management: Oversees the reduction of pollutants and harmful substances, especially greenhouse gas emissions.
- Collaborates with other leaders to implement processes and procedures to reduce the company’s carbon footprint.
- Promotes and explains the company’s responsibility and sustainability philosophy to internal and external stakeholders.
- Works with the various divisions to maintain and improve product safety.
- Works with the various divisions to maintain and improve service and product quality.
- Oversees the use of renewable energies and optimization of energy efficiency.
- Works with the various divisions to develop a circular economy.
- Ensures the organization’s careful use of water as a resource.
- Ensures the organization’s reduction of waste and pollution.
- Ensures the organization’s promotion of occupational safety.
- Ensures the organization’s promotion of equal opportunity.
- Ensures the organization’s promotion of education and training.
- Responsible for establishing and driving healthy and sustainable growth and development goals.
- Works with the various divisions to question and further develop business models for sustainable management.
- Works with the various divisions to create stable and sustainable value-added chains.
- Ensures the organization’s compliance with laws and regulations at all levels.
- Manages efforts to establish and maintain social dialogue between company and employees.
- Leads efforts to ensure compliance with the prohibition of anti-competitive prices or marketsharing agreements with competitors or the abuse of a dominant market position.
- Creates and plans outreach programs that engage, support, and partner with the community and produce a positive impact to address local issues.
- Oversees efforts for development and certification of ISO certification programs for Liebherr locations within the U.S., to include the management of ISO 14000 environmental programs.
- Works with federal and state agencies to provide input in development of regulations as well as to be aware of new and existing government policies, and ensures compliance with all federal, state
- and local laws and regulations.
- Promotes education and training on responsible environment & energy, sustainable management and employees & societal topics with internal employees and external stakeholders.
- Supervisory Duties:
- Manages 2 direct and indirect reports.
- Responsible for the overall direction, coordination and evaluation of the Corporate Responsibility and EHS team.
- Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.
- Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work, appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Competencies
- Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent combination of education and experience. Should have a minimum of 5-7 years’ experience with the development and implementation of corporate responsibility initiatives. A minimum of at least five (5) years of management experience is preferred.
