About the role

 SUMMARY

Bering Straits Native Corporation is seeking a qualified Subsidiary Controller based in its Anchorage Corporate Office to lead financial reporting for construction-focused subsidiaries and perform consolidated financials across BSNC entities. This position plays a critical role in ensuring compliance with GAAP and federal government contracting requirements, including FAR and DCAA.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee monthly close activities including journal entries, account reconciliations, bank reconciliations, accruals/reversals, fixed asset accounting, and revenue recognition (percentage-of-completion/job-costing).
  • Ensure accurate and timely financial consolidation of BSNC, Holding Companies, Subsidiaries, and Joint Ventures, including eliminations and budget-to-actual comparisons.
  • Maintain complete and compliant accounting for construction and government contracts, including WIP schedules, contract billing, retainage tracking, indirect rate pools, and job profitability.
  • Prepare annual Incurred Cost Electronic Submission (ICE) in compliance with federal government contracting requirements.
  • Support DCAA-compliant accounting practices and internal controls in alignment with GAAP and FAR requirements.
  • Draft GAAP-compliant financial statements and footnotes for external audit; act as a liaison with internal and external auditors when needed.
  • Supervise and support General Ledger staff, ensuring efficient operations and effective review/approval of journal entries.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with project managers, estimators, and other departments to meet month-end, project closeout, and audit deadlines.
  • Assist in entity setup and configuration in Deltek Costpoint, including company codes and indirect cost pools.
  • Lead or support special projects and other duties as assigned by the Corporate Controller or Vice President of Finance.

 

QUALIFICATIONS - EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATION

Required (Minimum Necessary) Qualifications

·         Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or related field.

·         Master’s Degree, CPA or CMA certificate.  

·         Five (5) years of progressively responsible accounting experience.

·         Five (5) years supervisory experience.

·         Strong experience with construction accounting and government contracting (including WIP, job costing, percentage-of-completion).

·         Knowledge and practical application of GAAP, FAR, and DCAA requirements in a government contracting environment.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics

  • Proven ability to manage and mentor accounting teams in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel and financial systems; experience mapping accounts for consolidation.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for reports, audits, and interdepartmental collaboration.

·         Ability to interpret and apply complex federal regulations and contract requirements.

Preferred Qualifications .

·         Five (5) years Deltek Costpoint experience.

·         Ten (10) years diversified accounting experience including construction and government contract accounting.

·         Prior experience preparing ICE submissions and supporting DCAA audits for federal construction contracts.
