About the role
GCyber is hiring a Senior Linux Engineer – RHEL to support a mission critical program to enable the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) cloud-based intelligence sharing and collaboration capabilities across its mission partners.
The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring the reliability, stability, and performance of RHEL-based systems and servers. This role requires a high level of technical proficiency and an in-depth understanding of Linux operating systems and related technologies.
This position is full time onsite in Arlington, VA. Given the unique mission and classified nature of the work, there is no opportunity for hybrid or remote work arrangements.

As a Senior Linux Engineer, you will:
- Design, implement, and maintain Linux-based server environments, ensuring scalability, security, and high availability both on premise and cloud-based.
- Transition environment to LDAP/AD authentication.
- Perform system administration tasks, including installation, configuration, troubleshooting, and patch management of Linux servers.
- Establish YUM repositories for centralized access across the environment to streamline system patching and application installations and upgrades.
- Monitor system performance and implement optimizations to ensure optimal resource utilization.
- Implement and enforce security best practices across the Linux environment in line with governments standards and STIG requirements.
- Develop and implement automation scripts (Bash, Python, etc.) and leverage automated configuration management tools (Ansible, Puppet) to streamline repetitive tasks and improve efficiency
- Active DoD TS/SCI Clearance with the ability to obtain and maintain CI Poly
- DoD IAT Level II Baseline Certification (e.g. Security+, CCNA-Security, CySA+, GICSP, GSEC, SSCP) and ability to obtain an Amazon System Operations certification or Amazon Developer certification within 120 days.
- BA/BS Degree (or equivalent experience)
- 10+ years of hands-on Systems engineering and administration experience
- In-depth knowledge of Linux operating systems (e.g., Red Hat, Ubuntu, CentOS) and troubleshooting in enterprise environments (e.g., reviewing VM & application logs & tracking down sources/causes of VM or application issues)
- Experience working with JSON or YAML to write Infrastructure as Code playbooks (Terraform, Ansible).
- Comfortable performing YUM updates, VM reboots, creating server certificates, and other common Sys Admin tasks.
- Additional preferred knowledge and experience:
- Experience working with Security-Enhanced Linux (SELinux) preferred.
- Experience supporting DISA or DISA mission partner environments preferred.
- Experience with Docker/Kubernetes preferred.
