This position interacts directly with patients and families to schedule appointments, register demographics, obtain insurance information, collect payments, and enter the information into the EMR. This position supports and assists all aspects of the check in and check out stations of the clinic. This position will serve as a liaison between consumers (staff, patients, healthcare professionals and general public) and advocates the patients’ needs.Job Description
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
- This position supports and assists all aspects of the check in and check out stations of the clinic to provide quality care and compliance with practice standards.
- Complete pre-visit work following department guidelines including EPIC work queues
- Update patient’s information for appointments accurately by ensuring verification of patient demographics as well as collecting and confirming insurance.
- Responsible for ensuring that the HIPAA Privacy notice has been offered and documented in EPIC, and obtaining/documenting permission signatures for assignment of benefits and treatment consents.
- Collect and document payments following the department and WUSM guidelines.
- Assist patients and families by generating work and school notes, validating parking (when applicable), providing directions, and providing related visit information.
- Offer MyChart enrollment for the patient and families following the Department and WUSM guidelines.
- Works with physicians and/or appropriate personnel to appropriately triage or work phone calls, tasks, and e-mails as needed.
- Completes necessary paperwork and documentation in a timely manner.
- Follow end of the day closing and HIPAA procedures
- Demonstrates a high commitment to excellence in service and quality through interactions with team members, Neurology faculty, staff, referring physicians, patients and their families while focusing on service culture and continuously striving to align with the Department of Neurology’s mission and vision.
- Maintains required HIPAA compliance, skills/competencies and participates in staff events, continuing education, and cross training according to established standards by Washington University and Department of Neurology policies.
- Complies with OSHA, state and federal regulatory sources/standards, and standards of accreditation.
- Participates in quality improvement activities with the team to ensure appropriate clinical outcomes.
- Identify and report duplicate accounts that have been created in EMR per EPIC guidelines.

Required Qualifications:
- Basic Life Support certification must be obtained within one month of hire date.
